POLITICO just dropped a bombshell with a story Sunday evening about a leaked email written by Mark Kirk to his campaign manager Eric Elk on November 3, 2009. Full story: Kirk feared attack from right.
POLITICO says the email came from a Democratic operative who in turn claims to have received it from someone close to Kirks inner circle. Could a certain Svengali figure be involved somehow? We just dont know.
In any case, the email and its instructions reflect some panic on Kirks part going into the campaign season for the February Primary. Kirks email was sent just a few days after liberal Republican Dede Scozzafava dropped out of a special election for a U.S. Congressional seat in upstate New York. Scozzafava suspended her campaign because she was running so far behind the Conservative Party candidate, Doug Hoffman.
Kirk wrote on November 3rd, The moderate brand has to be rebuilt after Scozzafava implosion.
Kirk goes on to give his campaign manager several marching orders most of which in essence relate to keeping gullible conservatives within the Kirk campaign fold.
The POLITICO story points out that the day following the email is when Kirks campaign reached out to Sarah Palin seeking some kind of an endorsement.
The good news is Palin is a smart woman and obviously saw right through the scam. She ignored Kirks appeals. The bad news is many conservatives in Illinois took the bait hook line and sinker.
So are you one of the conservatives who has been helping Kirk, or at least keeping quiet about him? Think youre special because Kirk or one of his operatives reached out to you? Well guess what, youre not. Kirk set out the strategy on November 3rd where the campaign would communicate with conservative elites and convince them to sell-out their souls. Many of course have but not here at RepublicanNewsWatch.com. We still proudly highlight Mark Kirks extremely liberal voting record on our front page.
After reading all the excerpts POLITICO provides from Kirks memo, its not clear which is the most offensive the cynical way Kirk intends to bamboozle conservatives, or his poor grammar.
Decide for yourself, but I still say screw Mark Kirk. The guy isnt a Republican to begin with and we cant possibly build a real GOP around someone so dishonest. And make no mistake, if Kirk becomes a U.S. Senator he becomes the de facto head of the Illinois Republican Party to an even greater degree than he and his people already are.
Conservatives and Tea Partiers should also wake up and realize that a Senator Kirk would be the liberal fly in the ointment, the liberal in the GOP senate caucus who will hinder the new agenda incoming conservatives will surely try to advance.
Finally, if your goal is to stick it to President Obama, electing Mark Kirk gets you nowhere. Not only is Kirk mostly in tune with Obama on the big issues, but consider how the GOP winning both the House and Senate can be expected to assist Obama with reelection in 2012. Hell now have a foil to campaign against for two years.
Absent something big and unforeseen happening in the next few weeks, Republicans seem nearly assured of winning back control of the U.S. House. If we get back the U.S. Senate too, thats great but I do think theres a downside. And in any case, if Republicans do get a majority in the Senate, it needs to be thanks to principled Republicans who stand for something Republican. Obviously that excludes Mark Kirk.
Doug Ibendahl is a Chicago Attorney and a former General Counsel of the Illinois Republican Party.
Well, you may be right - I think I know what Mark Kirk is, and what he is NOT. His record on fiscal issues is pretty good, he may as well be Barney Frank when it comes to social issues. But he’s not Alexi, and he does have an R behind his name (the first letter in RINO). So like many I will hold my nose and vote for him, because even the longest journey begins with a single step, and taking “the Obama seat” from the Democrat party will weaken them in IL and Kirk is at least no worse than Alexi.
Do I wish Jack Ryan had kept it zipped? Yeah. I wish we had a better candidate now, too.
Would he vote with his fellow Republicans to filibuster the Democrats radical agenda, or would he side with the Democrats right away, turning on Republicans right out of the gate?

You forgot the part required BY LAW:
Paid for by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, http://www.dscc.org, and not authorized by any candidate or candidate’s committee.
Operation RINO Kill (politically speaking, of course) is a necessary prerequisite to Our Republic's restoration, pure and simple.
DEFEAT MARK KIRK ! *PING*
“His record on fiscal issues is pretty good,”
His cap and tax vote says otherwise.
Half a loaf or none? Conservatives trying to starve themselves again. I don’t like Mike Kirk any better than most conservatives but tell me when Illinois is ready to elect a conservative in a statewide race. Better yet, let me know when Chicago slides into the lake.
Well I early voted and I hold my nose and voted for Kirk..
Why are we still fighting the primary? Kirk is not the solid conservative we all wish for, but one isn’t likely to be elected in Illinois. His 57% rating from the American Conservative Union means we can count on him more than half the time to vote the right way. Giannolouis has said he will begin a “progressive Senate caucus” if he wins this Senate seat. I daresay that means we’ll be able to count on his vote for conservative causes around 0% of the time. Better to take half a plate of what you want than a full plate of steaming cow pies.
And get real, Labno has no chance. When was the last time a Libertarian candidate won anything? The time for this argument about Kirk was earlier this year. Why give up the 51st seat for Senate control as if his opponent would somehow be so much better for the conservative cause?
Oh yes what we need is Alexi, that will fix things.
Yeah, but if you vote for Kirk, you can do no better than him in six years. Plus:
* That lying, snivelling, back-stabber will represent the REPUBLICAN party.
* He’ll be the go-to guy for all Sunday morning shows.
* He’ll have the authority to credibly attack any real conservative (”Even Republicans think so-and-so is just beyond the pale!”)
I keep telling people that voting for a liberal just because he’s got an “R” after his name makes as much sense as giving classified information, weapons, and field position to a Nazi spy, just because he’s stolen a GI’s uniform.
Ask Bob Bennett if a sitting republican senator is guaranteed a primary win.
Labno is the ONLY logical choice for a Conservative. Kirk’s a Socialist Combiner buddy of Zero’s, too.
They’re about to elect a Conservative GOP Governor. So why elect a Socialist DIABLO who is opposed to everything Bill Brady and the Tea Party stands for ?
Gov. Brady will appoint the crooked Alexi’s successor when he goes to prison. It won’t be the pathological liar and backstabbing Socialist weasel Mark Kirk.
My sentiments exactly. Why is this coming out NOW, two weeks before the leftist is defeated??? Scumbag leftist journalista dirty manipulation. It’s going to happen all over the country. The Socialists are scared to death, their back is against the wall, and their journalista peons will be very busy bees up until November. If we fall for this hoax yet again, and allow the obamaoistas to win, I say we should just sit down and whine NO MORE.
You clowns make me puke. You scream all about this magical majority and the need to elect Republicans. Do you remember Jim Jeffords? Lincoln Chaffee, Arlen Specter? The Maine sisters? What good is electing a liberal Republican when he'll just destroy the best chance we've got of restoring conservatism?
Seriously, I hope Alexi G. wins, if Labno can't pull it off. I would rather see this corrupt Dem win than Kirk.
