I won't vouch for all the numbers below but the general idea has a lot to be said for it -- JR
1. Americans spend $36,000,000 at Wal-Mart Every hour of every day.
2. This works out to $20,928 profit every minute!
3. Wal-Mart will sell more from January 1 to St. Patrick's Day (March 17th) than Target sells all year.
4. Wal-Mart is bigger than Home Depot + Kroger + Target +Sears + Costco + K-Mart combined.
5. Wal-Mart employs 1.6 million people, is the world's largest private employer, and most speak English.
6. Wal-Mart is the largest company in the history of the world.
7. Wal-Mart now sells more food than Kroger and Safeway combined, and keep in mind they did this in only fifteen years.
8. During this same period, 31 big supermarket chains sought bankruptcy.
9. Wal-Mart now sells more food than any other store in the world.
10. Wal-Mart has approx 3,900 stores in the USA of which 1,906 are Super Centers; this is 1,000 more than it had five years ago.
11. This year 7.2 billion different purchasing experiences will occur at Wal-Mart stores. (Earth's population is approximately 6.5 Billion.)
12. 90% of all Americans live within fifteen miles of a Wal-Mart.
You may think that I am complaining, but I am really laying the ground work for suggesting that MAYBE we should hire the guys who run Wal-Mart to fix the economy. This should be read and understood by all Americans Democrats, Republicans, EVERYONE!!
To President Obama and all 535 voting members of the Legislature, it is now official you are ALL corrupt morons:
a. The U.S. Postal Service was established in 1775. You have had 234 years to get it right and it is broke.
b. Social Security was established in 1935. You have had 74 years to get it right and it is broke. c. Fannie Mae was established in 1938. You have had 71 years to get it right and it is broke.
d. War on Poverty started in 1964. You have had 45 years to get it right; $1 trillion of our money is confiscated each year and transferred to "the poor" and they only want more.
e. Medicare and Medicaid were established in 1965. You have had 44 years to get it right and they are broke.
f. Freddie Mac was established in 1970. You have had 39 years to get it right and it is broke.
g. The Department of Energy was created in 1977 to lessen our dependence on foreign oil. It has ballooned to 16,000 employees with a budget of $24 billion a year and we import more oil than ever before. You had 32 years to get it right and it is an abysmal failure.
You have FAILED in every "government service" you have shoved down our throats while overspending our tax dollars.
AND YOU WANT AMERICANS TO BELIEVE YOU CAN BE TRUSTED WITH A GOVERNMENT-RUN HEALTH CARE SYSTEM?
Maybe it was 155, I was close.
I am quite familiar with the constitution as adopted. Just because a power is enumerated doesn’t mean the power must be exercised. The power to coin and print money is also enumerated but that didn’t stop the creation of the fed. E point is that congress can delegate such powers if the so deem to. If economics was ever the issue then we wouldn’t be having this discussion as the PO would have been long since disposed of. I only questioned your motives because I have never encountered anyone, especially on a conservative website that beleieved it was a good idea for the govt to run anything especially the PO. Do you think healthcare will be run as effectively as the post office?
In addition, can’t be serious that email has truly caused their eroding financial position as Fedex and UPS have done relatively better.
So while apologize for questioning your motives, it is quite obvious that the only argument you can make for keeping the status quo is that the constitution says that it’s a power of congress. Can you come up with any other reason to keep it the way it is, or has the dog eaten your mail bag?
Walmart is the main driving purchasing power behind MADE IN CHINA. How quick so many forget what advertisements Sam Walton used to build WALMART. Remember the Made IN USA signs and advertisements? Remember when Walmart used to be proud to sell MADE IN USA and used it as a main part of their purchasing policy?
After Sam Walton and then his son died many things changed. None were for the better longterm. Here is what happened Walmart no longer simply was selling name brand quality items at a discount. This buying policy changed manufacturing in the USA and cost many American jobs. As well it LOWERED the quality of many items to obtain a bottom dollar price. This was also about the time Walmart ended it's Made in USA campaign.
Walmart has taken many turns in the past few years none of which are for the better fir the consumers. One is ending stockroom inventories and going to an on time delivery system. Another major change was the ending of Layaway and pushing Walmart credit instead. Layaway was a great way to stay out of debt, buy kids school needs and Christmas.
Among the more recent changes is Bentonville micromanages every aspect of the stores. Ever go into a Walmart and notice certain items are no longer carried? Not just out of stock but gone. I don't mean seldom sold items I mean high turnover. Notice in the foods section a few months back they tried to muscle name brand items off the shelves? I do not but store brands in foods because mostly they are the culls or the seconds of the brand name.
Notice in their shoes and clothing departments it's getting hard to tell which section is mens and which is womens and parts of it are now mixed? Notice Walmart no longer sells it's CD's by the type of music? Walmart used to be a great place for buying CD's now my local second hand book store has far better and diverse music choices as well as a huge inventory. They even sort it by the type of music and put it in alaphabetical order. These policies came from Bentonville. No more Crafts was a Bentonville change. Walmart doesn't care what sells in some areas well. Everytime Bentonville visits a store they do away with something else.
Enjoying your CFL lights congress mandated? Guess who pushed it? Guess which stores incandescents disappeared from the shelves from for over a year?
Walmart Corp is also heavy into The Green {Environmental} movement. In short at Walmart in items on hand and QUALITY of items sold is no where near what it was at 10-15 years ago. I will never again buy any electrical tools or outdoor gas power equipment from a Walmart. My last item was a Poullan Weedeater which lasted me half a summer and it wasn't their cheapest one. The policies Walmart has set and the manufacturing demands they have made has been trickle down into the economy. Lowes, Home Depot, Target, etc all sell China because for the manufactures to meet Walmarts demands as my link shows forces them to buy Made In China as well. Walmart controls manufacturing IOW.
Walmart as it is being ran today will not last much longer. Competition will come in and make them what K-Mart is today. The competition will take Sam Walton's origional business ideas which made Walmart a great place to shop up till a few years ago.
There is a thriving private delivery system of the mail that benefits from the infrastructure built out of necessity by Constitutional mandate. A very good illustration of how the Government can exercise its enumerated powers in concert with private enterprise making a buck providing the same service.
Still with the mail garbage? I am a scientist, not a postal officer. The only position I have ever held within the Federal Government was that of a Noncomissioned officer within the USAF. Because I think that the military too is a legitimate function of government, does that mean by your illogic that I must support government run health care?
Sad that you so rarely run into a Conservative who knows the Constitution and thinks that the government does have a legitimate function or two amid its limited and enumerated powers.
Yes. As has been stated three times on this thread, the Post Office delivers to everyone in the United States at a uniform rate. FedEx and UPS don't even deliver to many rural areas while the post office will deliver to the bush by float plane. That is the reason to keep them.
So you support government monopoly. Don’t lecture me about the constitution. I studied it in law school. No doubt from the founding of the country until there were public union thugs and before there was an out ofcontol federal government, it made sense for the Feds to run it. They were also empowered to create post roads to facilitate the mail.
But you avoid the issue of efficiency and the stifling of innovation that the current system encourages. And you avoid the issue of pay cuts and benefit roll backs as well as service reductions that a private business would enact. And again you cannot defend your initial contention that email is causing the losses rather than poor management and union corruption and congressional pandering.
And thank you so much for your service to our country.
Your reply is to the wrong guy. But I do support the government running the Post Office and gave a reason why in my post.
And you are right and I am wrong. I got wrapped up in my own string converting days/hours/minutes.
I shop there for the low prices.
I also enjoy being greeted by the fellow who stands stiff as a board and cheerfully says, “Wuckum ta Wah Mott!”
I thought you may have. I’m not sure why the author changed time frames like that but it leads to confusion.
