‘Sister Wives’ star loses her job
Salt Lake Tribune ^ | Oct. 15, 2010 | Scott D. Pierce

The fallout continues for the Brown family of TLC’s “Sister Wives.”

After the cable television series debuted Sept. 26, Meri Brown, of Lehi, lost her job.

“They felt that they needed to protect the company, I think,” Meri said in an episode of “The Oprah Winfrey Show” that aired Thursday. “It actually makes me really sad because I loved my job. It breaks my heart, definitely. ... But I understand where they’re coming from.”

“Sister Wives” chronicles the lives of Kody Brown; his wives Meri, Janelle, Christine and Robyn; and their 16 children. The final two half-hour episodes of the series about the Lehi family air Sunday on TLC.

Meri would only say she had been working “in the mental health industry,” declining to name her employer. She said she was studying psychology and was hoping to work with at-risk teens.

Contacted to speak about Meri’s firing, Kody Brown wouldn’t comment. “I can’t talk right now,” he said.

“They aren’t commenting on anything right now,” said Laurie Goldberg, TLC’s senior vice president of communications. The appearance on “Oprah” was taped last week; the Browns have refused interview requests since then.

Meri Brown’s employer was aware she was a polygamist before the show aired; all of the Browns were open about their lifestyle with bosses and co-workers. In previous Tribune interviews, Kody Brown said as far as work was concerned, polygamy “hasn’t been a problem” and the family has “gotten a lot of support.”

But that changed after “Sister Wives” premiered on TLC.

The Browns are still waiting to hear if they will have legal problems to go along with Meri’s job situation. Earlier this month, Lehi police presented a case against the Browns to the Utah County Attorney’s Office, which is screening the evidence for charges of bigamy, a third-degree felony. The penalty carries up to five years in prison.

The Browns were aware they could face legal trouble when they agreed to do the show. “We knew there were risks, but we feel like this story, for the sake of our entire family, is an important one to tell,” said Janelle, in an interview prior to the show’s premiere. Added Robyn, “And we are willing to take those risks.”

The Browns also said they were hoping for understanding, not prosecution. “It’s not like we’re trying to promote our lifestyle,” Meri said.

“This is for us. It’s not for everybody else,” Robyn said. “We chose this. We like it. Doesn’t necessarily mean you do.”

Well, are the homosexuals and mass media going to rush to her defense claiming what she does in her bedroom is of no interest to her employers? (Will they be consistent?)

(On the other hand, there's this little matter about the "legality" of her lifestyle)

Janelle, the big fat blonde one, should be the next to lose her job.

She works in one of the courtrooms in SLC!

exactly.

The same people that argue that homosexuality should be legal are also against polygamy.

I saw part of this show, the “husband” is a slick fellow. He has these women eating out of his hand. The stuff he says to them with a straight face is hilarious. There is one scene where he is out with one of the gals for their 20th anniversary and he gets bent out of shape when she says “what if I was with another man”. He says something like how repulsive even the thought of that is to him. LOL!

I gotta say this.

First off, I’m Catholic, not LDS. But I live in St. George, Utah. There are NO WORDS for me to tell you how mad this show makes me. My sister asks why I watch it and I reply that I must be a glutton for punishment.

I resent TLC trying to normalize this crap, as so many Mormons around me resent it. The LDS people have been trying to “mainstream” their faith in America for a hundred years. Mind you, I don’t agree with the tenets of the LDS faith, being Catholic and all.

I am absolutely certain that Mormon intervention in Prop 8 in California was the fear that the definition of marriage would change, opening the door for these polygamist kooks. I don’t believe it had a thing to do with gays; it had to do with offering these nuts a way to redefine marriage & thus Mormonism, in a way that most now reject. While I don’t agree with them on religious issues, I find the Mormon people endearing. They are genuinely nice and decent. I can understand why they don’t want screwballs such as those on “Sister Wives” representing them, just as I don’t want miscreant priests representing me.

I may have posted this before, I can’t recall. But I want to tell a story.

But before I tell my story I’d like to remind everyone that if you live in St. George, you sure know what a “lost boy” is. We see them all the time, along I-15, carrying all their worldly goods. Just Google “Lost Boys Mormon” and you will figure it out.

When I worked at my plant nursery, I saw many polys...their “Little House on the Prairie” dress is distinctive. I became used to seeing them.

One afternoon, a young woman came in (probably 19 or 20) with a little boy in tow, and I was helping her sort through herb plants. She was striking, because I had never seen a gal who was so naturally pretty in my entire life.. No makeup at all. She could have been a model for any agency in the world.

When we finished choosing plants, I walked her to the front of the store, chatting about how to water them, etc. She got in line, and then I got my surprise. A man, who was 90 years old if he was 50, came up behind her, putting his arm around her. I was okay until the kid called him “Dad.” DAD

This man was her spouse.

You would have had to have seen this yourself. I became so physically ill that my boss grabbed me and said “I think it’s time for me to take a break with you.” He (mainstream LDS) explained to me that, in the pecking order of things in the old LDS way, the more senior the man, the more pretty and youthful gal he was permitted to select. Sick.

No wonder the mainstream LDS church fought how marriage is defined. Who wouldn’t be mortified that their faith would be portrayed this way?

Polygamy has one big problem that they cannot overcome:

Polygamy: How it all got Started

Joe: Hey Emma!   Guess what!?

Emma: You KNOW I hate these guessing games! What is it, Dear?

Joe: I heard a voice, probably the Lord, tell me I must take other wives.

Emma: WHAT!?   You ding bat!  Don't you KNOW what our precious BOOK says?   After all; YOU are the one that translated it!

Joe: Books; schmooks.   All I know is I've been COMMANDED to take other wives and you are to OBEY ME!!!

Emma:      "Though shalt NOT commit ADULTERY!!!"

Joe: Silly Woman!  You KNOW better than to take things out of CONTEXT!!!

...and the rest is HISTORY...

THE BOOK OF JACOB
THE BROTHER OF NEPHI
CHAPTER 2

24 Behold, David and Solomon truly had many wives and concubines, which thing was abominable before me, saith the Lord.
25 Wherefore, thus saith the Lord, I have led this people forth out of the land of Jerusalem, by the power of mine arm, that I might raise up unto me a righteous branch from the fruit of the loins of Joseph.
26 Wherefore, I the Lord God will not suffer that this people shall do like unto them of old.
  27 Wherefore, my brethren, hear me, and hearken to the word of the Lord: For there shall not any man among you have save it be one wife; and concubines he shall have none;
28 For I, the Lord God, delight in the chastity of women. And whoredoms are an abomination before me; thus saith the Lord of Hosts.
29 Wherefore, this people shall keep my commandments, saith the Lord of Hosts, or cursed be the land for their sakes.
30 For if I will, saith the Lord of Hosts, raise up seed unto me, I will command my people; otherwise they shall hearken unto these things.
31 For behold, I, the Lord, have seen the sorrow, and heard the mourning of the daughters of my people in the land of Jerusalem, yea, and in all the lands of my people, because of the wickedness and abominations of their husbands.
32 And I will not suffer, saith the Lord of Hosts, that the cries of the fair daughters of this people, which I have led out of the land of Jerusalem, shall come up unto me against the men of my people, saith the Lord of Hosts.

Or even HERE:

 1 Timothy 3:2-3
 2.  Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,
 3.  not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money.

1 Timothy 3:12
A deacon must be the husband of but one wife and must manage his children and his household well.

 Titus 1:6
An elder must be blameless, the husband of but one wife, a man whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient.

Emma: That's IT!   I'm LEAVING your sorry *!!!

Joe:  DARN you Emma; you were TOLD to accept this!!   Wait!!!   I hear a voice again!!!

THE
DOCTRINE AND COVENANTS
OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS
SECTION 132

51–57, Emma Smith is counseled (commanded) to be faithful and true; 58–66, Laws governing the plurality of wives are set forth.

51 Verily, I say unto you: A commandment I give unto mine handmaid, Emma Smith, your wife, whom I have given unto you, that she stay herself and partake not of that which I commanded you to offer unto her; for I did it, saith the Lord, to aprove you all, as I did Abraham, and that I might require an offering at your hand, by covenant and sacrifice.
52 And let mine handmaid, Emma Smith, areceive all those that have been given unto my servant Joseph, and who are virtuous and pure before me; and those who are not pure, and have said they were pure, shall be destroyed, saith the Lord God.
53 For I am the Lord thy God, and ye shall obey my voice; and I give unto my servant Joseph that he shall be made ruler over many things; for he hath been afaithful over a few things, and from henceforth I will strengthen him.
54 And I command mine handmaid, Emma Smith, to abide and acleave unto my servant Joseph, and to none else. But if she will not abide this commandment she shall be bdestroyed, saith the Lord; for I am the Lord thy God, and will destroy her if she abide not in my law.
55 But if she will not abide this commandment, then shall my servant Joseph do all things for her, even as he hath said; and I will bless him and multiply him and give unto him an ahundredfold in this world, of fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters, houses and lands, wives and children, and crowns of beternal lives in the eternal worlds.
56 And again, verily I say, let mine handmaid aforgive my servant Joseph his trespasses; and then shall she be forgiven her trespasses, wherein she has trespassed against me; and I, the Lord thy God, will bless her, and multiply her, and make her heart to brejoice.

Of course the woman is only married to one man. SO they are firing her because she won’t divorce her husband who is cheating on her?

Would they fire a woman who worked for them if they found out she was sleeping with someone else’s husband? I can’t imagine they would.

And one more thing...(while I’m at it. LOL)

To watch these middle school, junior high aged boys walking along the highway, alone, is really something. They don’t wait until these boys are senior high school age. They kick them out at puberty. Can you imagine your son being left alone, in the middle of the desert, to fend for himself with nothing but the clothes on his back? And little formal schooling?

I have to laugh when this doofus says “Love should be multiplied, not divided.” Apparently, he has never taken MATH.

Listen asshole, in NO world can a man have four wives, without creating an excess of single males.

Grab a history book and learn what happens when a country and culture has an excess of single males.

We call it WAR.

If marriage is going to be redefined to allow two men or two women to get “married” then why shouldn’t polygamy be allowed? Why not group marriages? Why not adult incest marriages?

Welcome to the Obamanation.

How could there be any risk if there are not multiple marriage licences or fraud? To my understanding a bunch of folks living together and calling themselves married carries no legal risk unless there is fraud or getting multiple marriage licenses by lying to the state. Seems like the risk would be minimal if these loons just kept their noses clean.

I know what that is. But it’s rare.

To watch what is going on in this state, AGAINST the will of the people, is quite something. Evidently, when this TV show aired the first time, the phone lines in SLC melted.

But we have an AG that views the law selectively. In Utah, instead of being of abiding the rule of law, and not of men, we have the reverse.

He is disinterested in going after polygamists, even “in your face” polygamists. He also doesn’t like to go after illegal aliens, who are absolutely everywhere.

And they are all pregnant, with toddlers in tow, shopping with food stamp cards, filling our emergency rooms in hospitals.

When I visited my doctor last month, she mentioned that she isn’t taking new patients, and intends to retire 5 years earlier than she planned. Turns out, she met face to face with her own liberal group-think and didn’t like it.

While her private practice did not accept Medicare or Medicaid, she took her turn at the local hospital ER. One night, some chick came in, pregnant, with multiple medical “issues.” The doctor did the best she could, given the medical protocols. The pregnancy had problems, unbeknownst by this doctor. Wasn’t good enough. This patient attempted to sue her, even though she was only the doctor on duty, not her personal physician. Utah is one of those states that makes it HARD to go after doctors. We have tort-reform on steroids.

Turns out, this patient had not only taken extra steps to get pregnant, but she had been warned not to by other doctors, for physical reasons! This patient ended up confessing to a nurse that she needed a baby born in the U.S.

So get this straight: She used our medical resources to try to get pregnant, made doctors take big risks to generate a pregnancy, and then attempted to sue when it didn’t work.

Yes, she was an illegal alien.

My doctor said to me (thank God I got in before she stopped taking new patients!):

“Listen, I’m more liberal than anyone in St. George. Or Utah. And I’m not part of the Brethren here. Remember, I’m from San Francisco. But I’m not going to let people pee on my head and tell me it’s raining, either.”

LOL
