OKLAHOMA CITY -- Did you feel the earth shake at about 9:06 this morning? Well, reports are coming in and it appears that a minor earthquake did roll through the Oklahoma City area this morning. A 4.5 earthquake is what local news reports are saying.
We here at Red Dirt Report, here in mid-Oklahoma City, certainly felt it, noticing that the cats were startled and one fell off a table. What is interesting is that your Red Dirt Reporter has been predicting an earthquake in our area for a couple of weeks. I say that because I have noticed a number of "lost pets" signs tacked on poles. Some time ago I had heard that pets start "disappearing" - as our kitten did a few weeks ago - prior to earthquake activity.

NEW 3.0 EARTHQUAKE IN ARKANSAS NEW MADRID FAULT LINE 8 Quakes in total TODAY (10/10/10)Updated: 48 earthquakes rock Faulkner County (Arkansas - 10/11/10)
Hmmm...
To: Arkinsaw
“they are not in the New Madrid Fault Zone. Also, the recent earthquakes in Arkansas are not part of the New Madrid Fault Zone either....they are part of the Enola Swarm area which entirely different.”
I hope you are right as I have family on Lake of The Ozarks in central MO. If the New Madrid ever snaps like it did in 1812, the Bagnell Dam at Lake of O will probably fail and there gonna be allot of former lakefront property droppin value fast.

When the big one hits the New Madrid......... It’s going to make the Katrina disaster look like minor damage from a thunderstorm.
Besides the cost in human life, think in terms of devastating disruption in transportation networks at the very center of the country. The monetary value of losses would be incalculable.
The reconstruction period would be similar to that after the Civil War.

Did you know that Oklahoma is the third largest state in seismic activity behind only Alaska and California? The only difference is that our quakes are small and normally not noticed.

Earthquake rating upgraded to magnitude 5.1
An earthquake that struck central Oklahoma today was the second-strongest in the state's history, the Oklahoma Geological Survey reported. No significant damage or serious injuries have been reported with the quake, which was felt in three states.

Notice, though, that the USGS still has it at a 4.3? It’s been at least 3 hours since the OKGS upgraded it first to 4.5 and then to 5.1.

You don't need to hide! Stay out and enjoy the fun. The one that hit Moore, Ok this spring tore up a building I was inn. I watched it to the last second then dived for cover. It was small enough to not get real worried about. Maybe an F2. You don't want to be out in it or in a car. Just I.D. where your going to go then watch the fun.
I went for cover when pelted by dying birds.

We were not actually under the bed, we were sitting in a little cafe watching the coverage on 2 separate weather stations. It was the tornado that killed several people in the little community of Lone Pine OK. When we got back to our motel we found that it had been evacuated and lost part of it's sign. I must admit I was a little nervous about being so close.

They are very very dangerous. I was in Moore Ok for the May 3rd 1999 F5. You could not survive that above ground if in the direct path. They are amazing. But know your F category and have a plan and your OK. If an F-5 is coming at you and you can’t go under ground then God help you, because only he can, but he probably won’t.

A 8.0 on the San Andraes Fault or the New Madrid would be bad.
An 8.0 in Yellowstone would be baaaaa-dder!

All the old factories, made of brick and since converted to lofts, restaurants, etc., will merely be a pile of brick
Cool then used brick should be affordable
