OKLAHOMA CITY -- Did you feel the earth shake at about 9:06 this morning? Well, reports are coming in and it appears that a minor earthquake did roll through the Oklahoma City area this morning. A 4.5 earthquake is what local news reports are saying.
We here at Red Dirt Report, here in mid-Oklahoma City, certainly felt it, noticing that the cats were startled and one fell off a table. What is interesting is that your Red Dirt Reporter has been predicting an earthquake in our area for a couple of weeks. I say that because I have noticed a number of "lost pets" signs tacked on poles. Some time ago I had heard that pets start "disappearing" - as our kitten did a few weeks ago - prior to earthquake activity.

They just threw that one out there with no more details and haven’t covered it since that report.
To: Uncle Ike
I’ve perused half a dozen OK news sites and no mention of casualties, only the two injuries.

Methinks you left your sense of humor on the bedstand this morning. There's less chance of Keith in Iowa not having a sense of humor, as there is a blind archery champion.

Funny. A little.
You can make yuk-yuk all you want... fact is, an earthquake did happen in Oklahoma, despite everything you’ve said. IT was funny for a while, but you’re becoming a droll.

I'm at Fowl River and it rattled my windows...so much so that I deliberately noted the exact time. Wow, I thought you were joking!

This has absolutely nothing to do with the New Madrid Fault Zone, which represents the failed rift arm of a Precambrian aulocogen that the Mississippi River now runs through. From Kansas down south to the Arbuckle Mountains is an old basement-involved structure known as the Nemaha Uplift. Many of the old oil fields, such as the one at the capital in Oklahoma City, overlay it. Yes, I am a lowly nerd.

Someone freepmailed me, and said maybe there wasn't an Earthquake.
Maybe I hit it.

Maybe I hit it. Man, if you caused that, you deserve some credit!

I fly over Oklahoma all the time, and I never felt an earthquake.Right! I'm in a state within 150,000 miles of Oklahoma, and I've never felt one either!
To: Dilbert San Diego
Are these related to the New Madrid fault?
No they are not in the New Madrid Fault Zone. Also, the recent earthquakes in Arkansas are not part of the New Madrid Fault Zone either....they are part of the Enola Swarm area which entirely different.

We had one get loose here and turn over a train freight car. I think someone from Oklahoma hid one in the back of their SUV. I have seen several OK plates here in California never Riverside.

Another Midwest earthquake?
Wow....
To: rintense
Got a bad feeling the New Madrid is going to blow real soon.. I wish everyone the best of luck back if this happens.
To: SoonerStorm09
We Freepers here in N. Texas would respectfully ask that you keep all your earthquakes on YOUR side of the Red River.
Earthquakes are allot like wild teenagers. You never know when they will strike or how much damage they will inflict.
