This movie is worth the trip to the theatres.
You won’t regret it.
8^/
I liked the part where the two boys were talking to their mom on the phone during the daughter’s “war protest” play. One says, “Dad calls it Commie Crap.” Dad was right.
I would like to see the film, but from what I understand
they are making it an “underdog” versus the “bigs” kinda
film, but from my remembrances of Secretariat was that he
was a huge, powerful, beautiful horse who was usually the
favorite. My guess is that the owners had little to do
with the greatness of that horse. I would sure like to have
seen that horse...One thing I do remember, is a writer, saying
that when the horse would go past the crowd, the crowd would
“ooooh, and ahhh..” and the horse would get close to the crowd,
and pseudo-socialize with them....
Made him a real crowd pleaser...I do still want to see
the film...
I wonder if the opening comment is a missive from the
studio...no??? like in “creating buzz”.....hmmmmm...
The same minds that compare her to Ronald Reagan. She to date has more in common with the horse.
Although he was known by several nicknames [Wonder Horse, Red Terror, Big Red and Bobby] it never ‘felt right’ hearing him called “Big Red”.
To me, Man O’ War is the true Big Red.
Secretariat was a great horse but Ruffian will always hold a special place in my heart.
Are you too young to have seen him run?
I’m betting YouTube has clips.
[I’m old...I watched him live on TV]...;D
What a champion! I am a big fan of Zenyatta too. She also is a descendent of Princequilio who passed the big heart to secretariat’s dam. Princequillo was also the granddad of Sham. It was said that Princequillo corrected leg and endurance problems in the breed, He was from Europe and smuggled out of France in Ww2.
Yeah, that's why the libs are foaming at the mouth about it.
SECRETARIAT - 1973 Belmont Stakes
After he was euthanized in 1989 because of laminitis, it was found that his heart weighed 22 pounds, about two-and-a-half times as large as that of the average horse.
I saw and liked the movie. It was definitely heavy-handed in some areas (overplayed some of the difficulties Penny experienced), but still enjoyable.
What bothered me were the trailers before the movie (the Valerie Plame movie and the 2008 financial meltdown movie), which amounted to pro-Democrat political adverts shown to a completely captive audience.
Forget to mention that Fred Thompson is also in the movie. He plays Bull Hancock, the owner of Claiborne Farms.
“The whole time I was in the theater I kept seeing Sarah Palin on the screen...”
Yeah, you and the guy from Salon!
And apparently you have more in common with an ass than a horse.
Some may be interested in the origin of the modern Thoroughbred so here y'all go:

My favorite, Ruffian, had the heart of an indomitable warrior...she would either win or die trying.
*sigh*
Her match race with Foolish Pleasure was the last horse race I ever watched.
I think the 2nd place horse’s name was “Pffft. Why Bother?”....;^D
I remember being on the phone with my best horse friend, both watching our TVs and shrieking like idiots.
Wow.
Thanks for that.
I felt like I was 12 again...I’ve got goosebumps.
Here’s a weird bit of synchronicity.
The 2nd horse was named “Sham” and the fictionalized story of the Godolphin Arabian, “King of the Wind”, written by Marguerite Henry, the horse was was named Sham.
Irony is so...ironic.
thank you so very much for the link......just great
