Not much gory but lots of scary - Legend of Hell House with Roddy McDowall and Pamela Franklin. It was written by Richard Matheson, the guy who wrote I Am Legend. Then, of course, there's the magnificent Army Of Darkness but everybody's seen that..."Shop smart! Shop S-Mart!"

I *love* that movie! Especially John Vernon’s one-liners.

Great choice! The original Wicker Man is quite good.

Hey I saw the original Blob starring Steve McQueen at a drive-in when I was a kid. It scared the hell out of me!

Funny, I was going to suggest the same movie. Quite a horrifying and underapreciated film! I believe it was released at the same time as the mega blockbuster “Jaws” .

Did you say "horrible" movies no one has seen yet?

Mr. Sardonicus (absolutely great)
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (50's version)
Invaders from Mars (50's version)
Re-animator (none better)
It- the Thing from beyond Space
The Atomic Submarine (you can watch this online for free. Melting scene very scary)

Edward Woodward was really good in that one. The only death scene he did that was better was, Breaker Morant.

“Motel Hell” is awesome in its own right. “It takes all kinds of critters to make Farmer Vincent Fritters!”.

Carnival of Souls. Weird, out there film, way ahead of its time. I am certain most modern horror film makers have seen it. It is available on instant play with Netflix.

I do not watch horror movies but some that have some of those elements and might be of interest that few have seen are: “M1026”, “Invisible Enemies”, “The Visitation”, and “Deceived”.
