Kai Milla's eponymous clothing line has shut down, and the cash-strapped business has failed to pay vendors for months, sources claim.
Milla, wife of Stevie Wonder, founded the women's contemporary line in 2005 and received acclaim from the fashion press, including a spread in Harper's Bazaar and an appearance on "The Oprah Winfrey Show."
Milla's height of popularity came after First Lady Michelle Obama wore a green silk sleeveless dress by the designer in February 2009, when Wonder was awarded a Gershwin Prize from the Library of Congress and gave a performance at the White House.
Milla's last collection was for spring/summer 2010, and was presented during New York Fashion Week last September at the Museum of Art and Design at Columbus Circle. A source told Page Six the line was discontinued earlier this year.
"The company has left many creditors coming after her to be paid for time, service, and materials," the source said. "Modeling agencies, production crews, design assistants, pattern makers, office and store landlords have all been trying to contact her office in Los Angeles and New York for months for payment."

Just because you like clothes and wear clothes and call yourself a “designer” doesn’t mean people will buy your clothes and pay your bills.
After all, the Williams sisters are now “designers” and P Diddy as well or as bad.
They all seemed to have bypassed design school on their way to fame and fortune in the “designer” clothing business.

I will say that dress was one of the nicer outfits Michelle Obama has worn. Better than that red-and-black getup that made her look like a black widow spider, anyway.

Wow! That was just after Ubama entered the Whitey House. After the country got to see her "designs" for the first time, it was all downhill after that! Talk about the kiss of death!

IIRC Michelle had an Asian designer at one time.
Think she was the one that wrapped the First Lady in upholstery fabric.
