Jessica Olmstead has no problem staring down wild animals. The 17-year-old Harper Creek High School senior has taken up one of nature's oldest, and possibly most dangerous sports, hunting.
In the middle of August, Olmstead and her father, Tim, took a hunting trip up to Oba, Ontario, Canada, where the high school senior shot down a bear more than twice her size.
"When I go out hunting, it's really exciting," Olmstead said. "Whenever I see a bear I just want to go at it. When you're hunting, your heart is racing, your blood is pumping, and you feel that adrenaline rush. I really love to hunt."
Olmstead killed a 448 lb. black bear with a Matthews Passion bow and arrow set, designed for women, from a little over 16 yards away.
"The bear was the first animal I killed with the bow," Olmstead said. "As soon as my dad got it for me I was immediately comfortable and I was ready to use it the next day."

Tastes like chicken.....
What she did, is on my bucket list.....
It’s great to see a young woman who participates in outdoor sports.
She's a hair stylist...making darn good money. Cutting hair of some "star's"...too. Ha!!
She's coming back to OK...this Thanksgiving...and we will hunt together. Can't wait.....
I’d guess she’s well under 150 lbs.
They sure it wasn’t Oprah?
That’s great! I wished at times my daughter would have had an interest in it but she never did and I wasn’t going to push it, they have to want to do it.
Disgusting post. You all think she’s remarkable because she gets a thrill killing animals? Hunting is NOT a sport. In a sport both sides should know they are in the game. Shame on all of you who lust on blood sports....just for the thrill. Go grow a pair or compensate for your inadequacies in a more humane way.
You call yourself a conservative? You’re on the wrong board friend. You speaketh libtard BS.
Ouch! If your around my house around 5:00 AM the alarm need not be set. It gets active and firearmy in the woods.
Get a grip on reality please.
My youngest loves to shoot also.....
Her BF...has never shot a gun. Tried to get him to shoot a couple months ago....but it was so hot...we ditched the effort.
I think she likes the fact..she's done something..he's not.
He's a first year med student.....
Appreciate you...
FRegards,
You call yourself a conservative? Youre on the wrong board friend. You speaketh libtard BS
****************************************************
This board, as I was led to believe, was a grassroots political conservative give and take forum, to exchange views and opinions...yet over and over we have posts of dogs killed by chainsaws, and an never-ending supply of animal-abuse stories and WhoTF said to be a conservative you had to “make your bones” by killing a living, breathing creature...I am a conservative so lay off with that libtard BS.
Nothing you brought up in your post has a thing to do with genuine hunters or hunting.
I’ll stand by my libtard BS remark.
I have one question for you and hope you’ll answer it honestly.
Do you donate to PETA and/or HSUS?
Are you a girl?
Have you ever ate anything you harvested?
Are you a vegan?
Do you depend on others to make your kill's?
Talk about disgusting?
Your reply was inadequate. Wildlife management is a method of keeping game to a livable standard in their habitat. Some game are hunted while others are off limits and this is a very important part of keeping a species growing stronger and ever more vigilant. You should be mature enough to know that.
Yes or no....
Who homosexual'd in your Corn Flakes this morning?
She is remarkable because she isn't a sissy girl who is afraid of her own shadow. She went head to head against a huge bear with nothing but a bow and tiny arrow. Just as the Native Americans once did. Yes, it is thrilling. It is a test of your fortitude as a human against nature. The hunting not being a sport comment is just silly.
And before you tell me to 'grow a pair', I am a woman and I am proud to say I hunt. It is a way of life and a way to feed our family. I love animals, but I also understand conservation and the need to control the population. We could also delve into the large sum of money hunters bring to each states economy and the fact hunters fund conservation efforts with purchases of tags and hunting good taxes. Hunters are at the forefront of restoring and saving animal populations, I dare say, they do more to protect wildlife then any animal activist ever will. I could go on and on about the benefits hunters and their money do, but you will only see the killing and never understand the whole experience.
Even after death, that bear was not going to let go of that moose.
