SABILLASVILLE, Md. — When they retreated from the Battle of Gettysburg, Confederate troops passed by the area that is now Richard Masser’s orchards. If only the latest enemy — the brown marmorated stink bug — would follow suit. Damage to fruit and vegetable crops from stink bugs in Middle Atlantic states has reached critical levels, according to a government report. That is in addition to the headaches the bugs are giving homeowners who cannot keep them out of their living rooms — especially the people who unwittingly step on them. When stink bugs are crushed or become irritated, they emit a pungent odor that is sometimes described as skunklike.
Suddenly, the bedbug has competition for pest of the year.
Farmers in Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and other states are battling a pest whose appetite has left dry boreholes in everything from apples and grapes to tomatoes and soybeans.

What I can’t believe is that the NY Times did a story with a dateline from my old stomping grounds. Sabillasville’s population is something like 500 people.
I think they’ve infested Washington D.C. for some time now.

NEEM works pretty well on them. Had them on my tomatoes this year.
I was told that if you spray Listerine around your windows and doors, they won’t enter. Plan to try it this weekend although I’ve only seen 2-3 so far. Someone else told me that you shouldn’t flush them - they survive. Another told me to just “gather” them in a zippered lunch bag.
A lot of fun to use. Mine fell on the floor and the weight of the battery broke the cheaply made Chinese plastic. Waiting to see if an American company picks up on it. Great idea. sd
I have one of those bug zappers, they are fun. I had a bunch of wasps that went down into the grass. They were easy to zap when they came out.

Jesus (^&^%^%$ Christ, they better not unleash the asian wasp over here. It will take out every other bee population. Take a look on YouTube. They are unreal.

And if someone told me ten years ago that I would even be concerned about bedbugs, I’d have said they were crazy. Unfortunately, here we are.
Suck them up with your Shop-vac ... there’s a baffle inside the canister where the hose attaches that splats them.
Bag must be replaced after each stink-bug sucking session.
