SABILLASVILLE, Md. When they retreated from the Battle of Gettysburg, Confederate troops passed by the area that is now Richard Massers orchards. If only the latest enemy the brown marmorated stink bug would follow suit. Damage to fruit and vegetable crops from stink bugs in Middle Atlantic states has reached critical levels, according to a government report. That is in addition to the headaches the bugs are giving homeowners who cannot keep them out of their living rooms especially the people who unwittingly step on them. When stink bugs are crushed or become irritated, they emit a pungent odor that is sometimes described as skunklike.

Native to Asia, it was first found in Allentown, Pa., and has no natural enemies here.
“Native to Asia,”
So is every major disease and pestilence throughout the centuries. Why I wonder?
Our garden & orchard in central Florida is full of them!
We have stink bugs here at certain times of the year but I think ours are pale green. The do stink if you mash them but they seem to stay outside.
“The brown marmorated stink bug is more likely to invade homes in the fall than others in the family. The brown marmorated stink bug survives the winter as an adult by entering houses and structures when fall evenings start to turn cold. Adults can live for several years and look for buildings to overwinter in that shield them from the elements. They will work their way under siding, into soffits, around window and door frames, under roof shingles and into any crawl space or attic vent which has openings big enough to fit through. Once inside the house they will go into a state of hibernation where they wait for winter to pass, but often the warmth inside the house causes them to become active, especially in winter months, and they will fly clumsily around light fixtures.”

They don’t bite people ... they do bite crops, and destroy them. I’ve been warring with them over my tomatoes. The commercial insecticides I’ve tried have been only marginally successful.
Looks like your guy has a sense of humor! Should be fun.
