Bible most shoplifted book in the world.

Posted on 09/27/2010 6:07:17 AM PDT by Ancient Drive

I did not know this and stumbled upon these statistics. So they say. Would God punish a person who stole a bible? would it be considered a vanity sin or a mortal sin?

It is also the world’s best-selling book.

I guess it finds its way into the hands of those who most need it.

I’ve often said if someone wants to steal my Bible, they may have it. They obviously need it.

I think the Ten Commandments deals with the act, not the "product".

The Bible, although the Word of God, is not in and of itself an object of veneration. If someone steals a Bible from the store, it is a sin since stealing is against God’s commandments. It would not matter why someone wanted it, it is still stealing. Bibles are given away free from missions, evangelical churches, and Christian radio stations, so there would be no need for anyone to steal one if they wanted to read it. If they did rob a bible, one could only pray, that they were convicted enough of their sin to return it. Also, what in the world is a “vanity sin”? Sin is sin.

Perhaps they are stolen for nefarious purposes - i.e., Muslims stealing them for kindling?

Agreed. It also isn't like I couldn't go buy myself another Bible if someone decided to steal mine. I would hope that such a person would garner as much wisdom from it as I do.

Oh, I dont know. It’s not like God would say “dude, dont steal My Book. That’s copyrighted material registered with the law firm of Peter, Paul and Mary and we have the attorneys to prosecute you if you even look at something you didnt pay for”.

I suspect Satanists stealing them to burn in their evil rituals. I am sure they can’t bring themselves to pay for it.

Oh well, God will sort it out...

“Thou Shall Not Steal”....
Technically, you can’t “steal” the Bible since no one really “owns” it....(I’m speaking cosmically here....”
Besides, I think Jesus has no problem with it....

Kind of ironic given that plenty of Christian groups hand out Bibles for free. I wonder if many of these cases are non-Christians with a hostile view of the Bible who want to get their hands on it (for whatever reason), without supporting any Christian publisher or ministry in any way.
