The increase of vulgarity and profanity on this board is troublesome to me. It was not always so. I can remember the olden days. There was no profanity. None. And there was no chat. None. The first Freepers held one another to a high standard of discourse.
I wonder why and how the profanity has become so common? The rule in the reply box includes no profanity. Do we have a problem of definition as to what constitutes profanity? Does replacing one of the letters in the F word with %## or ! mean that we have not used profanity in our posting?
Im not really sure where to go with this. Certainly the site owner and his empowered moderators are the arbiter of what is to be allowed. I guess the best I would hope for is to encourage us all to think just a bit more about trying for forceful language without gutter language.
That is all.
Some might not admit it but nearly all think it. Still, it’s probably better to raise our snouts out of the gutter once in a while.
I’ve invited friends and they love this site. Thank god for it. I’m more embarassed by the utterly racist posts than I am cursing. IE- kid holding chicken, watermelon, etc.. Ignorant posts are offensive.
You don’t have to curse to be ignorant. I’m not saying you’re guilty, but let’s not take the mighty high road. You made the post, let’s talk honest here. What makes us look worse?
Do you remember just recently when Obama, speaking about the Gulf oil spill, said he "was looking for who's a** to kick," and suddenly the MSM took it as permission to say "a**" all the time on TV?
Adults acting like children; children who were given permission to be bad.

What do you want to talk about? The rule also states "no racism." I drop a dime every time I see it. Not so with the profanity because it does no good. (I and others have tried)
well sorry if I have offended in the past.
Cussing is one of my worst habits, and I do let it fly on occassion.
will try to refrain. ( wish me luck)
I gotcha. Not trying to argue. This is a multi-faceted problem that will cost me at least 7 million of Obama stimulus dollars to research at the socio-psyco-economic level.
Nor did moderation. Disruptors were among the reasons the board became moderated. I do not recall profanity even being an issue - but I could be misremembering.
I cannot name the exact time when I first began to notice the upturn of profanity allowed - maybe Monicagate?
I try not to use profanity, but it is a hard habit to break.
My husband could make a sailor brush with his use of it.
Last night, I was leaving a message on my cell phone for an 82 year old lady from my church. I thought I had ended the call but realized I hadn’t. Of course, right then my husband tripped on something and went on a tirade, swearing up a blue streak, I mean really foul language.
I haven’t spoken to her yet, but am sure I will hear about it, lol. I have never heard her utter anything, much less anything like what my husband was saying.
I guess profuse apologies will be in order when I see her.
While it is somewhat understandable for a frustrated FR membership to do so, given the current political and cultural upheaval going on, it still is a disturbing trend here of which you haven't been the only one to notice.
After all, we don't want this place to start resembling so many other boards around the Internet, where uncouth and unnecessary vulgarity goes unchecked.
FR still has class, and should remain so :)
Thanks Again,

“I drop a dime every time I see it”
Can I come over and check your couch? LOL!!!
My theory is that the downturn in the economy has caused a dramatic increase in alcohol consumption. Therefore a remarked increase in drunken freeping. Bush’s fault? ;o)
It was when McCain was running against Bush. The McCainiacs just couldn’t fathom why their candidate wasn’t being treated as some kind of god.
LOL! I usually shrug and go on to another thread when the dirty old men surface, but I sometimes find these posts annoying because they often break up a good discussion. Everybody rational leaves the thread when it degenerates into leering comments, or even when it turns into the 5 million posts of Catherine Zeta Jones every time certain ugly Dem females are mentioned.
So I think people should be a little more careful about breaking up a thread. These things are rarely the sort of witty or humorous asides that can lighten the mood but are just disruptions. And they're tired and boring. That's my main objection.
Obviously you have no love for Gen. Patton? :)
In gratitude, let me give you a link to a first-rate Shakespearean insult generator. Thou venomed fly-bitten codpiece!
Perhaps your mild-mannered posting will cause some to refrain, at least I hope so.
I am pretty sure that I learned every cussword known to man from my Father, who could string together a series of them in a tirade easily lasting 5 minutes or so.
LOL, in fact, over time, I realized that when he had used up his normal supply of cusswords, he would create new ones, on the fly, based on the ones he usually used, thus increasing his "cussword vocabulary".
Inheriting his temper, I myself became quite proficient on my own in using and creating such ill-tempered and easily flung terms, at least until I became a Christian, when the Lord guided me to stop doing that.
In these frustrating times, it is easy to be tempted to fire off a few cusswords toward whatever is causing that frustration, but I hope restraint will be the order of the day on FR.
I see mods are sweeping the thread. I have no idea what they are deleting. But moderation standards have always been a mystery to me.
I have booked it

Thanks Col. Good to see many 98’ers showing up and posting positive.
Exactly, sf.

Probably comments about the moderators. ;-)
