Mossberg 500 is a series of shotguns manufactured by O.F. Mossberg & Sons. The 500 series comprises widely varying models of hammerless, pump action repeaters, all of which share the same basic receiver and action, but differ in bore size, barrel length, choke options, magazine capacity, and "furniture" (stock and forearm) materials

Plus the A-5 will last forever. I have one made in 1914, just before the war.

One of my two Mossberg 500s is one I picked up about 25 years ago as military surplus, the other I picked up used from the local sporting goods store.

Sweet!

And the fin stabilized rounds are kick ass too. I was a tanker back in the day and it just knocks me out that this this thing basically has the same round options as a tank...just smaller.

I bought a Coast to Coast (Midwest Store) 12 ga labeled with C to C for 50 bucks in 1983. It was really a Mossberg 500. Sat in the closet for years. Pulled it out a few years back as an emergency Chukar gun for one of my buddies that fell down and broke his gun. Sucker cycled fine he hit 7 out of 9 birds he shot at. Wanted to buy ti from me but I kept it. Rock solid cycling and very reliable. Little rough since it had never really been fired. But I would go into battle with and have good confidence. Now my fav is Beretta gas piston system.

I have the Maverick Arms version with synthetic stock. It is a real workhorse, but it doesn't bury the trespassers.

Ah, the Persuader. Love the interchangeable barrel system. I need to buy the .50 cal MuzzleLoader barrel for mine.

That is not a close-defense weapon. That is a "from two-counties-over"

I hadn't considered the pistol grip situation. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Though I don't care for them on shotguns it's definetely something to consider.

There's also the fact that most 870's ship with a different barrel explaining the cost delta between the two.

Nothing says "scram" like this: Mossberg 590A1

The thing about any 12 gauge shotgun is that it not only give someone pause due to the visual; the bore of a 12g looks HUGE from straight on, it also gives them pause auditorially. The sound of a slide being racked back and forth in the dark conjures up all sorts of imagery in the mind of an intruder; most of it not good for the bad guy.

I think we’re talking about stuff you can buy at Big 5, not military-grade full-auto stuff.

That does look like fun, though.

I always say that even if someone has never heard a pump shotgun being racked, they would recognize the sound when they first heard it.

Got the gun and a 25-round bandolier - just gotta get the blade.

Mine’s 1957. The only mod I’ve made to it is a magnetic fiber-op front sight. Even works for 3-gun... ;-)

Holy Moley. That’s a wrist breaker and forehead knocker if I ever saw one. The kick on my M38 carbine is nasty. I can’t imagine that thing. Is it for real?
