MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - A Mid-South mother is charged with reckless driving while having 13 children in the back of her Ford Explorer, but she says she did nothing wrong the night she and her children were arrested.
Police responding to a fight at Crystal Palace say they saw Treshundra Barnes, 25, driving at a high rate of speed while serving back and forth. They say none of the 13 children in the car were wearing seat belts.
Officers say Barnes nearly hit several children.
"That never happened at all," Barnes said. "The only thing I was doing was hitting the brakes. Speeding I wasn't doing, but I was constantly hitting my brakes, turning around, trying to calm my kids down."
While the car was moving, police say several kids were hanging out the windows, screaming, and waving their hands at officers.
"They was loud and making a lot of noise, yes, they was distracting me, but I slowed down," Barnes said. "Trying to calm them down and get their attention but before I gathered everybody together and calmed them down, he had already pulled me over."
Barnes won't be driving for awhile after another incident over the weekend.
An Action News 5 reporter and photographer were at her house Sunday, covering a shooting.
She says a man with a gun carjacked her during a the incident, and her Ford Explorer is now being held as evidence.
This is Barnes' first reckless driving charge. She is also facing fourteen counts of violating the seat belt law, and she's charged with not having a driver's license.
I got the impression this was a childrens venue and she nearly hit several kids in the parking lot.
She should have consulted a coyote for illegal aliens. She’s an under performer. Surely she could have fit 20.
With 50 in a van they’d be packed so tight that they would have been mutual airbags.
You never hear of black women having post partum depression, just these freaked out white mothers who kill their kids. What’s up with that? Seems like this women could plead temp insanity before a jury and have a prima facia case. Just bring all 13 kids into the court room. The judge would probably throw the case out in 3 minutes.

My step daughter once talked to a government person about some aid. She made to much money to qualify with just one child, The suggestion was, “have another kid”. So so is encouraging this recklessness?
That's is why she could afford to drive around in an SUV.

Sure - and with all of them crammed in together, friction does the job of the seat belt. It’s a wonderful system...
