In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
antecessor\an-tih-SESS-er\ noun
one that goes before
Example sentence:
Literary critics hailed the first novel as a brilliant and groundbreaking follow-up to famous antecessors in the genre.
Extra example: "The relentless show-biz blitz by Gov. Bill Richardson, and all the movie- and TV-shooting it's brought to our state, will be a big part of his legend . Before Richardson's initiative, antecessor Dave Cargo was beckoning to Beverly Hills." -- From an editorial in the Santa Fe New Mexican, July 25, 2009
Did you know?
"Antecessor" may remind you of "predecessor," its synonymous and more familiar cousin -- and there's a good reason for that. Both words ultimately derive from the Latin verb "cedere," meaning "to go." "Antecessor" ultimately derives from a combination of "cedere" and the Latin prefix "ante-," meaning "before." "Predecessor" traces back to a different Latin prefix, "prae-," which also means "before," combined with "decessor," a "cedere" descendant meaning "retiring governor." Cedere" has many other descendants in English, including "decease," "necessary," and "succeed." Descendants of both "ante-" and "cedere" include "antecedent," "ancestor," and the verb "antecede," a synonym of "precede."
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

Obama, the great tax assessor
Is learning from his hated antecessor
Leave Bush tax cuts alone
And then call them your own
Compared to job loss, this “evil” is lesser
this is such a fun thread & I thank you all for the pings. I should make a priority of being here “in school” every day. Lord knows I need it!!!! And you are a neat group of FReepers who have fun
But, alas my antecessor models of excuses are legion
He looks like a Jimmy DiMora.
He looks like a Jabba DiMora
I’m glad English is my native language
Nice to see the bad guys finally getting caught.
he’s a big’un!
he looks a tad like OPH doesn’t he? LMAO!
As always Mik, you da man.
it’s hilarious how this HS reunion has prompted this flurry of emailing of pix etc. back and forth between people who haven’t been in regular touch in decades. of course not being on FB i have no access but paula will send me pix from there. Today she sent one of a HS hottie which i forwarded on to another friend from HS, who used to know him quite well. She was in SHOCK, he is a big ole GREEK guy now, LMAO! paula and i have agreed that our husbands are each far better looking than erstwhile HS hottie, which would have been inconceivable, back in the day! LOL!
Excellent work MD, but the proper title for Mr. Pres__ent is “Dear Reader”, or TOTUS.
LOL! I really hope that Christine runs over Coons or Cooms or whatever the bearded marxist’s name is in the general election. I bookmarked last night’s thread about her primary victory so that if/when she wins in November I can go back to the thread and ping all the posters who immediately announced that this doomed whatever chances the GOP had for taking that seat and the majority in the Senate and serve up a large helping of crow, seasoned with a nice dose of jalapenos for them.
Was he Italian back in HS or something?
GOP prognosticators a week ago: Don’t go overboard, we might not win the House.
This week’s GOP prognosticators: You dummies, you just blew our chance to take 10 Senate seats.
Heh.
My dad got a call from the hospital while I was en route to his house saying they have a schedule conflict and his procedure is delayed for a couple of hours so I don’t need to pick up for a while. Not enough of a delay to make it worthwhile to go to work, but enough to give me a couple of hours to kill, so I’m chillin’ at Starbucks using their wi-fi and enjoying some strong coffee. I’ll probably go through two refills before I leave.
what a nice respite for you. you will be jangling!
he wasn’t so overtly ethnic looking back in the day, is my point.
