Neil Young will reunite with Stephen Stills and Richie Furay for a pair of performances as Buffalo Springfield for Young’s annual Bridge School benefit concerts in Northern California, with lineups that also include Pearl Jam, Elton John and Leon Russell, Elvis Costello, Lucinda Williams and several other acts.
The reunion of the influential country-rock band born in 1966 in Los Angeles will feature Young, Stills and Furay as an acoustic trio, given the Bridge School’s history of unplugged performances by all participants. The group's other two original members, bassist Bruce Palmer and drummer Dewey Martin, died in 2004 and 2009, respectively.
Springfield will top the bill both days of the Oct. 23 and 24 shows, which generates funds and awareness for the school’s programs aiding severely physically handicapped students.
“We make Pearl Jam look like a young band,” Young said with a chuckle over the weekend. “It’s all a matter of perspective.” Buffalo Springfield, in turn, won’t hold the most seniority thanks to the presence elsewhere on the shows of 83-year-old mountain music patriarch Ralph Stanley and a pairing of two of country music’s most esteemed singers and songwriters: 74-year-old Kris Kristofferson and 73-year-old Merle Haggard...

Whatever I think of Young’s politics, he’s one of the very, very few libs who isn’t a hypocrit, and he puts his money where his mouth is.
I must be the only person who is just as interested that Leon Russell is going to play at this thing. Really enjoy his stuff.

He may not be a great singer, but he really does good charity work with his talents, so give him a bit of a break. “Neil and his wife founded the Bridge School, which develops and uses advanced technologies to aid in the instruction of children with severe speech and physical disabilities.” He has personally raised huge sums for the Bridge School.
Furay and Messina were together in Poco.
And he is a San Jose Sharks fan.....let’s cut him some slack.

You're not alone. Saw him a couple years ago at a local performance. Walks with a cane but still has the stuff. Some oldies, some new. Played for hours.
I get out Mad Dogs and Eng (Joe Cocker) every few months. Leon arranged most all of it. A great American talent.
Thanks, am so glad to hear he’s ok. I remembered him from when I was a teenager, and then he was just gone. I know he wrote songs that were covered and he toured and such, but he’s just kind of off the radar. A great 2-CD anthology came out a couple years ago with good liner notes, all the good songs, and I’ve really been enjoying getting reaquainted with his stuff. Thanks again for the info.
