The new saddle seat, to be unveiled at a conference this week, increases the number of seats an airline can have in its economy class. The design, named the SkyRider, allows just 23 inches of legroom, which is about seven inches less than the average seat's space of 30 inches. Shaped similar to a horse saddle, passengers sit at an angle, with their weight taken on by their legs. It allows seats to be overlapped...
But while the designers claim it does not affect passenger comfort, they say it would only be suitable for flights of up to three hours. "We feel extremely confident that this concept will ... have great appeal to airlines for economic purposes," Dominique Menoud, the company's director general, told USA Today.
For flights anywhere from one to possibly even up to three hours ... this would be comfortable seating.
The seat ... is like a saddle. Cowboys ride eight hours on their horses during the day and still feel comfortable in the saddle."..

Good one!....very creative!
That is one of my favorite movies...when I went to see that in 1975, I was scared to go swimming in my swimming pool that night.
I used to live in the Philippines as a kid, and we frequently used to go swimming in those 20 foot deep tropical waters at night...didn’t give it a second thought. Now, I don’t think I could EVER go back into those waters at night, unless the ship I was on sunk from underneath me.

This is totally ridiculous!....Fly Midget Airlines!
I was thinking the exact same thing.
those saddle seats do not recline either.
NO TRAY!
welcome to Jethro Bodine Airways!
You realize these seats would not be allowed in a prisoner camp. no joke.
They would be considered torture devices.
Fortunately there aren’t any potential passengers with hip problems or replaced hip joints so this should work out just fine. </s
I’ve learned never to say “never”, but I’m not too worried about this. Every airliner is limited to a maximum number of passengers which is set by evacuation time requirements. You might be able to physically fit 250 people into a 737, but the FAA could have to change their rules or Boeing would have to design and install extra exit doors before the interior could be certified.
Will those cushions serve as a “floatation device”?
Precisely. Crazy comment and comparison to evoke. “Flying in a plane is as comfortable as riding a horse.” ‘Cept you can’t go where you want, when you want.
You ought to see the expression on her face when they encounter turbulence...
LOL.
Wait. You’re not laughing.
;-)
That would mess my hair in a bad way.
I think you are seriously unclear on the concept.
I flew from Dulles to Honolulu in that seat once.
Is that a coin slot on the chair arm?
10-4 on that one. Middle narrow seats say on a 737 or similar are the pits especially if another larger passenger sitting besides it. Would like a foward elbow rest to tuck shoulders/elbows inward.
