A TERRITORY girl is lucky to be alive after she was mauled by a savage dog.
Seven-year-old Meg Croton and her brother Connor, 9, had been feeding their family's dog - an eight-year-old mastiff cross - in their Humpty Doo back yard when the girl was attacked by the vicious hound.
"I tripped on a rock and fell, and I think I kicked his leg," Meg recalled the attack. "And then it hurt very badly and he was on top of me and ripped on my head. "But my brother saved my life."

Relentless. Unchanging.

Oh, and driving a Saab....
Close. Reading The Wall Street Journal and driving a VW Jetta. Turbo Diesel.
First, I offered MY opinion. So did everyone else. No one posted a single citation, link, article, or otherwise. Not me. Not anyone in your coven.
So, that at worst, makes the debate even. Since, logic, would suggest that newer is better than previously broken or unknown condition.... I believe I have the 1% edge. Unless of course, one of you produces your own citations. Then the ball will be back to me for mine.
Lastly: I am not a n00b. I think I will be finally getting around to making my "about" page to address a lot of this nonsense.... :::sigh::::
I am aware of the reasons why shelters have said lists. And in your second theoretical, once again we agree. Owners are the cause of bad dogs raised from puppies. All true. Without dispute.
That is not, was not, and will never be a point I seek to contest.
My point is and remains, still not addressed by anyone, that an unknown and untrained adult is not the best or safest choice for a family with young children.
This family went out and got an 8 year old dog, for 7 year old children and it attacked. My strong and firm conviction is they would have been safer, better, wiser, to have gotten a puppy. Even then, if they failed to raise it right, failed to teach it, it would have destructive issues, but it would see the children as members of the pack and not as threats.
LESS
RISKY
That is all.
Nobody chains teacups as a rule....you tend to just chain hunters and guards and dogfighters
I have a very big and very strong ABD...southern standard style...not a classic wrinkleface...and I've seen folks chain them...with logging chain...and they can still pull a steel stake out of a table rock given time and effort
I don't like chaining dogs but sometimes you have to. I have chained mine with heavy gauge wire but he doesn't fight so much cause he knows he will get free when the bushog man is gone or when company that brought their foofoo dog over leave.
My dog is a family dog and lives inside mostly at nite and in weather extremes but I have 4 acres with invisible fence...not everyone can afford that hence chains
some breeders of large catch breeds chain too because the dogs will destroy a wire kennel
i don't like permanent chaining of any dog but sometimes it's just the option folks have...dogs win the lottery too in life by chance same as humans...my breeder knew that when i bought his pup...10 acres...invis fence...origen food...kids....a wife that adores big male dogs...inside the house life....big pickup to ride in....you get to keep your “hackysack”...he looked down at that puppy and told him to behave cause you just got lucky in life....he coulda just have easily been sold to a hunting kennel...which he may have enjoyed coursing and killing catch but it woulda been much more spartan
dogs are still just dogs...i love em...mine’s upstairs chilling on the leather chair-ottoman but I got 5 kids here too and he's got his place..and if he gets chained up from time to time then he can just deal with it
a nice long run type wire between two trees with a drop line or a staked wire with 100 foot radius ain't mean to the dog in my opinion...with shade and water
I will never lose the attitude.
And I have enough hide to go 16 vs 1 for 36 hours.
And counting...
Stats can mislead. On the other hand there are often a few things these stories have in common. An unneutered male dog. Chained or habitually running at large. Certain types of owners. Large breeds, especially breeds that were historically used for guarding or breeds that have become popular with drug dealers and that sort. That’s all I was originally pointing out. And then someone took personal offense and it started. I was not commenting on anyone in particular’s dog keeping habits. There are always too many variables to do that on an online forum.
I pity the animal that has a confrontation with a human if the human provoked it. Animals have no voice, and people so often are cruel liars. Children are not angels, and anyone who thinks so is a fool. And in this case (though not most others) I just have a feeling that little darling was kicking a tied-up dog and got what she deserved. But mostly I just think big dogs and small children should never be together unsupervised.
Nice!
I thought that was Bablooey from Quick Draw McGraw.
“Youre goiung to burn Atlanta?”
Oh no! Not again!
Hey, have you seen this? Doggy heroes:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D91GQRX3YdY
i ain't keen on it
folks want that then they should buy a Lab and not a Pit or Alsation or Cane Corso etc
Black drug dealers only appropriated Pitbulls as bling the past 10-20 years or so ago...that really amped up Pitbull negativity....when I was a kid...Bull Connor images had soured most black folks on scary dogs..
I sure don't blame the dog because of how they treat them. I know folks with Pitbulls who care for them nicely...but like any bully breed...they have to be handled right..they just aren't for the Yorkie crowd.
Dog fighting is not uncommon in TN and KY...mostly black crack dealers versus each other or the occasional white country pot grower who culturally has a longer connection to Pits.
I grew up around them...never worried about them much till they started being a nuisance around the hood.
People need to think if they want a guard dog, a sporting dog or gun dog, or a companion or a lapdog.
If they don't want to have to deal with much then get a little dog or a cat.
I'm 53...I would not advise an American Bulldog for anyone over 70 unless they were very fit...and I would advise a bitchdog. Bullies with cajones are a pretty danged powerful...like gargoyles..
I would recommend a trained Dobie or Shepherd to an elderly person.
Fact is...a glaring fact...any big guard breed male...if inclined..can kill it's master unless it's Brock Lesnar...and maybe even then...you have to fool them into not knowing this..lol...it's just how it is
btw...Brock Lesnar
Try to focus. Remember “disdain?” Here’s a boatload of it, for it’s all you and your insane opinions and bizarre attacks merit. You are nothing.
And yet you reply to me? Something would suggest that it is more of a fanciful wish than a reality.
And I to you, so obviously, I think some value in a reply as well.
First, you don’t know me, apparently, so stop lecturing me, I wasn’t lecturing you. I was simply giving you the short version of what I was talking about in this thread.
Second, I’ve owned a pit, back in the 80s before they became the dog of choice for thugs. She was a great dog and was fine around my kids.
Third, dogs are not people and if you neuter them, they don’t know the difference. No one is talking about cutting YOUR testicles off, that’s between you and your female companion. (Men are so weird about that, I never see a woman get in a snit about spaying a bitch!) I don’t care if you neuter your dog or not, if you don’t let him roam, but in these dog bite cases more times than not it’s an unneutered male. BTW of the few male dogs I’ve had, I’ve kept them intact, and I’ve not had an issue with them, but like you, I don’t let them run loose, and like you I know what I’m doing.
Lots of people shouldn’t have any dog of any type anyway, since they are unwilling to put any effort into it. They should get some sort of virtual pet that doesn’t mind being turned off when it is not interesting anymore. Or a stuffed toy. Oh, and you and I are the same age.
“Third, dogs are not people and if you neuter them, they dont know the difference.”
Huh? How the hell would anyone know this? Did you poll dogs, using the Dr. Doolittle Polling Company?
it’s hilarious how easy to provoke you are.
i already knew you played the race card at the drop of a hat
now I know you also play the pitbull card
and the testicle card too
i think you got testosterone issues baby
man i wish you girls had stayed at your coven at wideawakes with Ivan..whew
anyhow...you get last word...i know u gotta have it
PS...I love women...but not snarly ones
Sure.
anthropomorphize all you want.
