A TERRITORY girl is lucky to be alive after she was mauled by a savage dog.
Seven-year-old Meg Croton and her brother Connor, 9, had been feeding their family's dog - an eight-year-old mastiff cross - in their Humpty Doo back yard when the girl was attacked by the vicious hound.
"I tripped on a rock and fell, and I think I kicked his leg," Meg recalled the attack. "And then it hurt very badly and he was on top of me and ripped on my head. "But my brother saved my life."

Dogs are not children.
What was she thinking, showing up so late? Darn dogs. :-)
I think the salient point is what a particular breed was bred for over the centuries. I've often had Irish Setters chained and they never depart from being their happy, lively selves. They just want to let loose to run and hunt in the woods.
I adopted an adult dog on a trial basis only once, he hated my current dog and wouldn't let her near me. He also bolted out the door into the street any time you opened a door. I gave him back to her desperate owner who needed a home for him after three days. I felt terrible about it because I think she eventually had to have the dog put down.
I won't own a dog that doesn't tolerate the kind of abuse the young children often impose on them.
I’ve seen chained golden retrievers turn nasty.
I agree!
Here is a good short article on the topic.

BTW I’m not suggesting that some breeds are not more likely to bite. They are. Just as are unneutered males. Put some things together and you keep upping the ante.
Any breed can turn nasty. Dogs are subject to most of the diseases and conditions and environmental influences that can cause humans to turn nasty. But chaining a dog does not turn it nasty, unless it is almost a wild dog that has never been penned, chained, or restrained in any way.
And yet, here you are!
Please read the article I linked in 87. There are reasons frequent chaining is a bad idea and chained dogs are frequently involved in bites. As I said some breeds are less likely to bite, but chained dogs are more likely to bite. It seems to be a cause. If you have a dog, find another way to keep it from wandering.
The thread wasnt posted by Chet99. I think this is worth discussion but I wont reply on any of his threads. His pitbull obsession is almost scary.
Lol, I'll just rely on my own judgment, having owned dogs for many years.
Yes, it certainly is. Makes you think he had a scare as a child. And he has a following of groupies as well.
Sure, you can ignore all the research and stats in the world if you like. I’m sure I’ve owned and trained at least as many dogs as you have, but, whatever.
Let’s see, you belittled LongElegantLegs for posting her experience but now you think yours however has relevance? Why is your experience valuable but hers isn’t?
You have also not posted any facts just opinions based on feelings. Until you are Cesar Millan your foundationless opinions are simply that opinions and they carry no weight whatsoever.
I personally have been around dogs for more than fifty years and have owned them my entire adult life. Both of my children were brought home to a house with dogs and were raised with them. My grandson was brought into my home with six dogs with no ill effect and now he is being raised with them. It is going peachy and they all love him especially the pit mix.
Until you bring facts and true experience on the subject rather than opinions don’t expect people with extensive experience to believe a word you say.
Unless he lived to be over forty you don't have near the experience that I have.
You dont know JACK....***!
Maybe it is "you who don't know JACK....***!" as you certainly haven't proven anything on this thread.
Another opinion that has no meaning or value to me.
She walked in shortly after my post, barked at me, then I told my son what I had written. Molly looked hurt, lay down, and hasn’t talked back since. Coincidence, but still cute.
I didn’t see this post.
LOL as my post above was a suitable response anyway.
