A TERRITORY girl is lucky to be alive after she was mauled by a savage dog.
Seven-year-old Meg Croton and her brother Connor, 9, had been feeding their family's dog - an eight-year-old mastiff cross - in their Humpty Doo back yard when the girl was attacked by the vicious hound.
"I tripped on a rock and fell, and I think I kicked his leg," Meg recalled the attack. "And then it hurt very badly and he was on top of me and ripped on my head. "But my brother saved my life."

Quite a while back joe, I got a freepmail from Chet and he said he was getting articles from other freepers that didn’t want to get into the fray with the pit defenders. He did not personally find all the articles....and you know I have never lied to you, maybe pissed you off a couple of times tho, sorry for that....GG
Kinda but in all fairness, I did feel awful for her when I went back and found her post about her deceased dog.
For that loss, I am sorry for her.
You may have noticed that during discussions and debates here on FR, many people post links to studies, news stories, judicial decisions, or expert opinion to reinforce their own opinions or knowledge of the topic at hand. It’s the polite and mature thing to do in civil intercourse.
You’re being asked to prove what you say. “Because I think so, no proof needed” just doesn’t cut it here, n00b.
If you encounter disdain, you may expect it because of your lordly attitude.

I was fascinated with dogs as a kid, so I managed to attain a number of decades in the sport without reaching retirement status.

Sal, pardon my interruption, but isn’t there an old saying that says something to the effect of “old horses for new riders”? Would it not then be very dangerous for a parent without years of training experience to put their young rider on a less-than-3 year old horse? Would a careful parent not look for a horse that’s in its teens to start their youngster on a lifelong love of things equine?

Let’s say, just for kicks, that all purchasers of puppies have a better chance of ending up with, regardless of skill in training, knowledge of dog behavior, commitment to overseeing pup/child interaction, etc. “safe” dogs. If this is correct, why is it that the number one reason dogs end up in shelters is for behavior problems ranging from housebreaking failure to obsessive barking or chewing - not necessarily aggression?
Could it just possibly be that many individuals doom themselves to having problem dogs because they shape the animals’ behavior from PUPPYHOOD to be problematic?
My question above is posed simply to point out that there are more than a few people who will, no matter how many pups they acquire, end up with animals that exhibit problem behavior. Therefore, they are more likely than average to end up with a “defective” canine, despite never having adopted an adult animal. This is why shelters and rescues have “do not adopt” lists.
