A plane just crashed near SFO in San Bruno, CA. Prayers to all affected.
So if it's a 16-26" NG line, maybe a very old line, does the congflagration in this one block mean new input lines?
I've yet to offer prayers, Lord forgive me.
Wow, that’s amazing. And frightening.
Gas mains can run under immense pressure (300+ PSI). Yes, they can give off that sound.
Usually, what comes into your house hits the meter around 50 psi and is taken way down to almost nothing inside the house as it passes through the meter.
My father-in-law was a contractor. The gas company didn't bury a line deep enough (supposed to be no less than 18 inches). They were using a back-hoe to level some dirt (no digging, just a quick pass across the surface). They snagged and broke the plastic gas line. It was less than three inches down. The back-hoe started running out of control when it sucked that natural gas in.
They finally just grabbed the line and bent it back on itself to stop the flow (the line up to the house is about 3/4 of an inch.)
The gas company was pissed, but they proved the install was improper and the gas company ate the costs.
It sounds like the smoke is becoming more of a factor to aircraft using SFO.

Someones in trouble for all that smoke...
All the more reason to shut it off.

“Homes on fire after explosion reported in Calif.”
(AP) 20 minutes ago
SNIPPET: “SAN BRUNO, Calif. Homes are being destroyed as a massive fire roars through a mostly residential neighborhood in a south San Francisco suburb.”
SNIPPET: “Television live shots show at least a dozen homes destroyed, with flames reaching as high as 60 feet in the air as the fire fuels itself on the burning homes.
Witnesses say a loud explosion was felt just before the flames erupted around 6 p.m. Thursday.”
Very disturbing live feed. Poor people.
There are many airplanes near SFO, the witness may have been mistaken.
I can see the fire from my house, even though it's probably 50 miles away. There are lots of emergency vehicles (I can see their lights.) The smoke is considerable.
No aircraft involved or confirmed. Apparently live report says the gas station near Lunardis has exploded. Per Channel 5 KPIX at 19:25.30.
I remember this one: Aug 19, 2000: A transmission pipeline owned and operated by El Paso Natural Gas ruptured and a fire killed 12 campers near Carlsbad, New Mexico. The ensuing fireball was large enough to be seen in Carlsbad 20 miles to the north. Federal investigators determined that the cause was severe internal corrosion of transmission pipeline #1103; over 70% of the wall had been eaten away near the rupture site.
Geez, just what we need. A new conspiracy theory has now been born.
Some nutcases will now forever be convinced a plane went down and it has been covered up.
Shaking my head...
When?
Right near Church of the Highlands. Hearing it’s centered around Claremont and Glenview Drives, which is just a few blocks away. I have a very good friend on Earl just around the cornere, and can’t reach her. I’m very worried about her. Been glued to the TV. All I see is smoke outside.

“Strong winds fanning huge San Bruno fire”
September 9, 2010 | 7:38 pm
SNIPPET: “Initial news reports from the are were saying the blaze may have been sparked by a large gas line rupture. There were also reports of people who were badly burned and others who were hurled through the air by a powerful explosion that preceded the blaze.”
Yes, very sad, indeed.
I’m surprised I don’t remember that one since I have family in Roswell. However, thanks for the info.
Prayers for all.
