LONDON John Travolta was onto something. Women are most attracted to male dancers who have big, flamboyant moves similar to the actor's trademark style, British scientists say in a new study. Kris McCarty and colleagues at Northumbria University and the University of Gottingen in Germany asked 19 men aged 18 to 35 who were not professional dancers to dance in a laboratory for one minute to a basic drum rhythm. They filmed the men's movements with a dozen cameras, and then turned those movements into computer-generated avatars so the study could focus on moves, not appearances. Scientists then showed the dancing avatars to 37 women, who rated their skills on a scale of 1 to 7. According to the women, the best dancers were those who had a wide range of dance moves and focused on the head, neck and torso. The research was published this week in the journal, Biology Letters, a publication of Britain's Royal Society. It was paid for by Northumbria University.

Man, if I had only known then what I know now :)

Well, there’s your problem ... they don’t have a “control” for the experiment. They simply assumed that women would like “dancing” more than “not dancing”.
I’d bet if you had a video of Clint Eastwood (the younger version) leaning against a wall mocking all the fruity dancing ... he’d have out-rated the entire bunch.
Women like men. But, when men are not included in the survey ... they like flamboyant “men” better than clumsy “men”.

Tell your sons and nephews. Don't keep them in the dark. I wish I had a cool uncle to tell me what wimmin want. Now I'm the cool uncle (after 20 some odd years of study) and my nephews get an earful. And yes, they will be studs.
Apologies. I should have been more explicit and descriptive. I don’t mean to be cryptic.
Women supporting men acting like women; Blacks supporting other Blacks (or Hispanics or Purple people, and so forth) wanting the selfsame power over others by imitating the ‘other’ group: not different concepts.
In practice, this is truly hypocritical to the point of outright lies demonstrated by actions. You don’t like this over here, but you do pretty much the same thing over there? There’s no difference except the individual person and location.
Oh, one more thing. Often, ‘still waters’ run deep and true. Otherwise, a ship goes adrift and off course, through malfunction or incorrect navigation. (Metaphorcially as well as physically, of course).
“Study: Flamboyant male dancing attracts women best”
Maybe, but I hold to the notion that flamboyant male dancing on Earth is one reason why we have been contacted yet by intelligent life from other planets.
I remember that sketch! Thanks for the hilarious reminder.
Technoviking is thirsty!
Some Women are attracted to men that dance "flamboyantly" because they see the man as being confident and secure. Ironically with some women this will cause later tension in their married life as women adapt to the cultural norm and then decide that their spouse is iconoclastic or "negative". Or in other words if he's dancing that same way at 50 she's going to be embarrassed and tell him to stop acting like an idiot.
Dancing is acting like a woman, huh.
That is a relativly recent development.
Real men have short hair as well, right?
I want the polar opposite of any “flamboyant moving male”!!!!!!! Thank you very much.
So... I guess someone that can only do the “Oklahoma Stomp” is doomed. :-)
thanks for the just messing with you words. For as ‘hitting ‘em with both barrels’ kind of words and thinking, these days I am a little off my game sometimes.
I do know that the opposite sex views people who dance well as somehow intrinsically better potential reproductive mates. IIRC, there’s research done on that at the university level. Now wouldn’t that just be a fun project? Can’t you just imagine the ‘hard work’ of collecting data on that one? LOL.
That would explain why my wife will never let me dance... Ever. At weddings she absolutely refuses to allow me near the dance floor.
I never knew she was the jealous type.
