GOP accuses (liberal Dem candidate)Dayton of avoiding Minn. taxes

Minnesota Republican leaders are accusing Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mark Dayton of avoiding state income taxes with trust funds located outside the state.

GOP chairman Tony Sutton pressed Wednesday for Dayton to release more information about his family's trusts and voluntarily pay Minnesota money from earnings on the accounts. Dayton's campaign quickly responded that the GOP was relying on outdated information and he has no current offshore holdings.

Dayton has built his campaign for governor on a pledge to raise taxes on Minnesotans with the highest incomes.

Dayton's family founded a major department store chain. The GOP used details from the former U.S. senator's federal disclosure forms to document the family trusts in South Dakota, the Cayman Islands and the British Virgin Islands.

If this true about Mark Dayton and his out of state trust funds, it sure appears as though he's trying to avoid paying taxes. This would make him quite hypocritical given his "Let's Raise Taxes On The Rich" plan he's been espousing.

OTOH, if it is true that Dayton no longer has these out of state trusts, it could make the state GOP look like it's wildly swinging away, trying to land a blow.

Isn’t it funny how Democrats are always happy to evade the taxes they insist you and I must pay?

The most flagrant one I remember was Howie Metzenbaum of Ohio.

One of the most liberal taxers in history.

Relo’d to Florida shortly before he died to avoid estate taxes.

Dayton may have moved the money now, but not too many years ago he was using an army of lawyers to avoid Minnesota taxes all while advocating raising taxes on everyone else.

If Dayton gets elected and enacts his millionaires tax, watch Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins players stash their assets in tax havens just like Dayton. South Dakota will also continue to welcome Minnesota tax refugees.
