"They had the Velvet Underground pretty darn high, I mean I know they were real influential and all that, but how many people even know the name of one of their songs?"

My two older brothers took me a to a VU concert back in 70 or 71 (post Lou Reed, unfortunately), and it was the first place I ever saw a man dressed as a woman - it had to be a man - and the first (and only) time I saw a woman overdose, probably on heroin. I didn't go to another concert again until '74.

All Tomorrow’s Parties - I only remember it cause Nico (German girl singer) was pretty but could not really sing.

They were hugely overrated and I think the Warhol connection was the key. Lou Reed sucks. John Cale was/is pretty cool.

VH1 has taste that is all in their mouths -
That is the most BS list of entertainers I have ever seen!
Roy Orbison does not make the list while “The Notorius Mr. BIG does - come on, who they hell are they trying to kid.

Neil Diamond has out sold fifty of them... combined. I guess being popular and having the market determine the best sellers doesn’t count.

John Cale is awesome in a weird way.

I saw him once in a small club back in the 80s.
He was phenomenal.

Zappa not being on the list is a travesty.

Not to mention highly influential to other bands in the 80’s, 90’s and even today.

Yeah he is a low key neat guy who played with a lot of people. He played viola and guitar which was pretty cool. His modesty is a real contrast to that annoying self-promoter Lou Reed.

I really think he was the only interesting thing in The Velvet Underground.

No Strawberry Alarm Clock? No Stormtroopers of Death? No Bloody Stools? No Fugs? NO ZAPPA??!!???

No Zappa. The mind boggles. What's left of it, anyway.

He really was very humble in concert.

A lot of folks don’t like his voice.
I do.

I noticed that, too.

For that matter, no Herbie Hancock, or rock groups like ZZ Top or Yes. All three of those were hugely influential on late 20th century music, and very popular. I could name a dozen others. Didn't notice CSN&Y on that list, either.

First mistake they made, was calling this the Top 100 Greatest Artists of ALL TIME. Do you really think The Notorious B.I.G. belongs on a list like that?

Like others have said, "all time" must only go back 30 years for these goofs.
