Taking a Liberal stance on the "Koran Burning" Issue.
09/07/2010 | Billy

The Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Florida, plans to mark the ninth anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks on New York and Washington by burning copies of the Koran. Taking a LIBERAL stance on this issue, and using the democrats same argument to defend the building of the mosque near ground zero… I think its fine for them to burn the Koran, as long as they follow all the zoning laws and have proper permits to do so. It’s more or less “A ZONING ISSUE” I think… Those who stand in the way of burning these books are nothing more than “...Americanphobes”. In the words of Nancy Pelosi "I think everyone should respect the right of people in our country to express their religious beliefs on their property." I also think it would be wise at this time for Pelosi to look into how the people that oppose these book burnings are being funded.

muslims kill muslims yesterday not a peep out of them
burn a flag ,Bible kill non muslims and they tell us to shut the hell up.
burn a quran and the far left kooks and muslims get all bent out of shape.

Stop with the hypocrisy from the left and muslims for crying out loud.
If the far left kooks want freedom for homosexuals, women etc then they would not be helping muslims to overthrow the west and that is what islam wants, to overthrow us.

FOX needs to shut the hell up too. Why is a General who is fighting a war telling a small church in FL to not do something but then say we’re over there to protect our freeedoms and as for endangering our troops well are they not in danger by being there anyway.

Obama tells the embassy over there which in turn tells the General to say this and FOX plays right into this.

The media and Left loved it when Marilyn Manson used to tear up Christian bibles in public civic venues.

And that was on public property.

This is “Banned Book Week”. Bibles are banned in Saudi Arabia. Schools also ban them. Why aren’t they included in the displays?

As a First Amendment matter, I say Burn baby burn.

As a Christian, I think it is stupid for a pastor to lead his congregation in this kind of activity.

The right to do this is not in question, the wisdom is. Our enemies and allies alike in Iraq and Afghanistan are Muslim. This is not helpful. That our opponents burn flags and Bibles does not justify our book burning. Just as our military was wrong in burning Bibles, this minister is wrong to burn Korans. Our enemy bombs markets, should we do so?

It’s their right so they should do it - that is the argument for building the Victory mosque.

>Our enemies and allies alike in Iraq and Afghanistan are Muslim.<

.
So you think we have Muslim allies? Why don’t we hear a peep from them when their fellow Muslims commit daily atrocities throughout the world?

They’re silent for political reasons, you say? Then how do you know they’re our allies?

Agreed. A private owner also has a right to build a mosque on his property regardless of whether some sensitive souls are “offended.”

For me, this is not a simple matter.

People say that they have a “right” to build the Atrocity Mosque at Ground Zero. While I do not agree, for the sake of this discussion, let us say that they do.

The simple reality is that building it there is plainly taken as a gross insult, by many, of not most Americans. For the sponsors to continue, (in the face of this resistance) and still pretend to be “building bridges,” is either abject foolishness, or intentional provocation.

Taking it as an intentional provocation, it would be emotionally satisfying to engage in a counter intentional provocation, such as burning Korans. It MIGHT even be a reasonable response.

HOWEVER,

One must consider the consequences. Oh those doing the burning should be safe enough, being protected by the Constitution, civilization, law, police, etc. Other people do not have those protections.

General Petraeus is not a fool, and we must pay some heed to his official opinion, whatever our opinion about the war.

There can be no doubt that our burning Korans will set off crazy people in Asia to potentially murderous riots. Those who PAY with with their lives may be American soldiers, or, more likely, indigenous Christians, completely innocent of our intentional provocation.

While Koran burning might feel good, and may become necessary, it is not a small thing. People will die from it. Innocent people. But, hey. If you pretend it isn’t going to happen, you won’t be responsible, right?

DG
