Maybe the skies are darkening and the times out of joint, but the moment is always propitious for a charming jocularity of this sort. Couldnt have said it better myself. Less pretentious, maybe.

In a biography on Stewart, it talks about the fact that he did not allow him to use his wartime service as a marketing gimmick. As one of the most decorated and succesful bomber pilots and commanders there was, he could have got a lot of mileage. The other tidbit was that no one from his crew ever lacked a job while Stewart was alive.
A hero, an officer, and a gentleman. One of the last in Hollywood.
