God did not create the universe, says Hawking

LONDON (Reuters) – God did not create the universe and the "Big Bang" was an inevitable consequence of the laws of physics, the eminent British theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking argues in a new book.

In "The Grand Design," co-authored with U.S. physicist Leonard Mlodinow, Hawking says a new series of theories made a creator of the universe redundant, according to the Times newspaper which published extracts on Thursday.

****We know the universe isn't eternal, otherwise the finite energy would have run out. We know that all events have a cause. We know that for the atheist and evolutionist, all causes and events are natural so the "first cause" has to be a natural one. I think my description, of Hyper-agnostic, best describes the worldview of Hawkings.********

The universe has not run out of energy because energy and mass are interchangeble (E=MC2), and there is a lot of "dark matter" tout there that is still unaccounted for.

All events don't have a cause. Some are just random, as proven by Quantum Mechanics.

Things have a "beginning" and an "end" because humans experience time flowing forward, but time is not necessary for the universe to exist. The natural order of things is entropic... from order, chaos. The universe is actual moving the opposite from chaos, toward order...

******** LOL! Ex.3:14 And G-d said unto Moses: 'I AM THAT I AM'; http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Bible/Exodus3.html******

14 And G-d said unto Moses: 'I AM THAT I AM'; and He said: 'Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel: I AM hath sent me unto you.'

The words translated "I am that I am" are EHYEH EHEYEH in the Hebrew. "I AM" is EHYEH in the Hebrew. "Jehovah," the name given for Himself by God to Moses on this occasion, is made up of two parts: JAH, which is used elsewhere in scripture by itself as God's name, and EHYEH, "I will be." From this it appears that Exodus 3:14, and the phrases, "I am that I am" and "I AM," are an explanation of the name "Jehovah".

God wasn't naming himself "I AM", as has been mis-translated over the centuries. He was telling Moses his name was Jehovah.

Now if you "Biblical Scholars" can get this one simple thing like the name of God wrong...., I have to wonder for you... What else have you gotten wrong about the Bible that you take on as dogma?

Think about it.

I thought you said, that you don't rule out a supernatural "first cause", that enables random events to occur?

If this is what you believe, than how can you now say that not all events (random or otherwise) have a cause?

“If Hawking claimed that ice could be created from water without the hand of a “creator”, would that necessarily make him an atheist?”

Yes.

Yoo Hoo?

No one knows for sure how the Universe is structured.
Including you.

Science and Religion are both attempts at getting to the end of the mystery, are they not?

No, I don't think they are. Or if they are they have failed badly.

God tells Moses that He is Jehovah in Ex.6:3.

Added together, the two verses read, I AM THAT I AM, I AM JEHOVAH. Think about it.

A correction. No human being on our planet knows for sure how the Universe is structured.

The unknown became known.

You may think something was known but that's just your brain chemistry talking.

Not ruling out supernatural "first cause" does not mean ruling it in either.

Not all things are premeditated, and not all things are random.

I never claimed I did. I can say for sure that I know more than you, but less than Hawking and Guth.

See my accurate translation.

JEHOVAH was his name, not "I AM".

I guess belief in God just depends on, what side of the bed you get up on each day.

You made the statement as a fact,so yeah, you did.

“I can say for sure that I know more than you,”

Just like you know for sure,as a fact, how the Universe is structed. Lots Of Laughs!!!!

God tells Moses that He is Jehovah in Ex.6:3. Added together, the two verses read, I AM THAT I AM, I AM JEHOVAH. Think about it. *************

Try again.

This is the mis-translated verse:

13 And Moses said unto G-d: 'Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them: The G-d of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me: What is His name? what shall I say unto them?'

14 And G-d said unto Moses: 'I AM THAT I AM'; and He said: 'Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel: I AM hath sent me unto you.'<'i>

"I am that I am" is "I am JEHOVAH" when translated correctly.

The second part of the verse says nothing about Jehovah.
