WATERFORD, Mich. (WXYZ) - A newborn baby is in the hospital recovering from a pit bull attack that happened as his grandfather held him in a Waterford backyard.

Wally Mersino was holding his four-day-old grandson when the family dog, a pit bull mix named Floyd jumped up and bit the baby on the head. “His fang tooth or something put a laceration on the head, I kicked the dog away and we rushed the baby in the house to stop the bleeding,” says Mersino.

He says, the dog was sitting next to him on the back patio when all of a sudden without provocation, without warning, the dog jumped up and opened its mouth on the newborn.

The baby was rushed to the hospital, and Animal Control came and took the dog away. The newborn had several stitches and is expected to be released from the hospital as early as Thursday.

Mersino tells Action News, the family dog was put down Wednesday, and even though it was sad, he knows it had to be done.

"I found some interesting stuff on ferrets, though...Apparently, they were banned in New York and California because of their insatiable lust for human flesh."

'Tis the stuff of Legend...

And Song...

(But I still wouldn't feed one an anti-freeze meatball.)

Yeah, YOU! You know who you are, you dog poisoners!

‘I’ve lost count long ago...”

How many meatballs are you missing?
Subtract that number from the meatballs you originally had and you’ll know for sure.

You’re allowing yourself to be manipulated by the
PETA-backing media.

Haven’t you figured out the propaganda machine by now?

You’ll continue to get “story after story” about anything
they want you to get all exercised over, until you do what
they want and not even realize it.

There are vicious dogs, but viciousness is not breed specific.

" Pit bull terriers are not domestic animals" Windflier is not a rational thinker.

My....that's very liberal of you. Respond to someone's reasoned point of view with a personal attack.

I hope you don't think that was effective, or that it won you any points on this website. I didn't.

You may call it a personal attack if you like.
The fact is your statement is a falsehood
and most likely the result of thinking irrationally.
The only other source of such nonsense would be
that you are an out and out liar
and I’d don’t think that is the case.

Why are you thinking irrationally?
Could be a few reasons... ignorance, emotions, immaturity,
lack of understanding of logic or perhaps moral narcissism.
The answer is for you to discover.

Or you can just go on making the irrational claim that...
“Pit bull terriers are not domestic animals”

Your entire response to me was that I wasn't a "rational thinker". That's a personal attack. You're being disingenuous by implying that it isn't.

The fact is your statement is a falsehood and most likely the result of thinking irrationally.

There you go again. You don't seem to be able to express yourself, or even attempt a discussion, without calling names. The balance of your post is nothing more than a series of ad hominems.

Listen, you're entitled to believe whatever you like. If you want to believe that there's nothing different about the so-called Pit Bull terrier from any other breed of dog, go right ahead. It doesn't make it so.

Nor does your personal belief make my reasoned observations "irrational", or "falsehoods".

In my view, defending the reputation of pit bull dogs is the same as the left's defense of Muslims.

You can yell all day long that 'pit bulls are just like any other dog. They don't bite any more than other breeds'.

That's just like saying, 'Islam is just like other religions. Muslims don't commit violence in the name of their religion any more than Christians or Jews do.'

Both of those statements are indefensible, per my personal observations.

Please share with us, from your "personal observations" exactly how Pit Bull Terriers do not qualify as domestic animals. Perhaps you have a unique and insightful definition of what a domestic animal is, that would help us understand your assertion.

While you're at it, does this qualify as a domestic animal?

How about this?

Lastly, what would you call this creature?

You just had to drag this guy out for us, didn't you?

And you wonder why Shibumi questions your logic and rationality.

Pitiful.

Pointing out that your statement is the result of irrational thinking is a critique.

You can either accept and attempt to remedy it by examining your premises,
or you can double-down and seek to justify it with more of the same.

It appears by your reply that you've chosen the second approach.

Godwin’s Law needs updating.

Instead of Hitler, I propose that anyone who invokes the intentional, horrible crimes perpetrated by Muslims when referring to acts committed by dumb, ammoral creatures automatically forfeits the argument.

Every time I see the trite, trivializing, worn out, hackneyed phrase “dogs of peace”, I lose all respect for whomever wrote it.

Comparing the wholesale, wanton, pre-planned murder of innocent people by savage human barbarians ~should~ shame those who would dare to even compare the two, let alone equate them.

Alright - it's a critique, then. Up to this point, that's all you've offered. You haven't even offered a point of view, much less any any reasoned opinion.

For my part, I at least stated an opinion, which I believe to be reasoned, based on my own personal observations, and many years of voluminous reports.

I'll state it again:

In my view (and per my observations), the so-called Pit Bull Terrier is not a domestic animal, and should not be treated as such. It has proven to be an exotic and dangerous animal that should be managed in the same way that we manage other wild and dangerous creatures.

It's my view that people who wish to keep these animals, should be required to hold special licenses to do so, and should also be required to maintain these animals in secure facilities for reasons of public safety.

You just had to drag this [strawman] guy out for us, didn't you?

Pit Bull terriers - The Dogs of Peace (or is that pieces?).

Here's a concept -- when the documentary evidence is against you, accuse others of presenting strawman arguments. It's real effective, and will usually shut up the opposition.

I guess I'm just one of those intolerant, right-wing, pit bullophobic haters. No hope for me.

Please share with us, from your "personal observations" exactly how Pit Bull Terriers do not qualify as domestic animals.

Per my observations (and mountainous reports), they're much more prone to unprovoked attacks than other dog breeds are.

They are more prone to attacking family members and household guests than are other breeds of dogs.

They're more easily coaxed or trained to be vicious, than are other breeds of dogs.

Those are my personal observations. If you disagree, so be it.

Would you call this a domestic animal?

How 'bout this?

Or this?

Just because an animal can be classified as a canine, doesn't mean that it's suitable for domestication.
