Rocky Hill woman torches car in failed attempt to toss cigarette out window

SOUTH BRUNSWICK NJ — A driver tried to throw her cigarette out of her car window, but the still-burning tobacco fell inside the vehicle, setting it on fire, police said. At 9 a.m. Monday, police responded to a 911 call of a car burning on Bard Drive North and found a 1998 Honda Civic fully engulfed in flames.

The 19-year-old driver, from nearby Rocky Hill, told police she had been smoking a cigarette moments before the fire and tried throw it out the window. Moments later, she realized she missed when she felt heat on her back and saw the car fill with smoke, police said. She pulled over and escaped without injury, but the car was destroyed in the fire...

Smokers regularly cost us BILLIONS of dollars in damages from wildfires started via throwing cigarette butts out the window.

My only regret is that this idiot didn't self immolate.

Don't get me wrong. Love smokers, and they get a bad rap. But a LONG way towards them being treated like rational human beings, would be for these scumbags to ACT like rational human beings and not throw fire around haphazardly in wildfire zones (or elsewhere for that matter).

Hey, I’m just being honest. Before smoking was banned everywhere, ashtrays were plentiful, and I never lacked the appropriate place to discard the butts. Unintended consequence, to be sure. But I’m sure you live a life free and clear of offense.
