SOUTH BRUNSWICK NJ — A driver tried to throw her cigarette out of her car window, but the still-burning tobacco fell inside the vehicle, setting it on fire, police said. At 9 a.m. Monday, police responded to a 911 call of a car burning on Bard Drive North and found a 1998 Honda Civic fully engulfed in flames.
The 19-year-old driver, from nearby Rocky Hill, told police she had been smoking a cigarette moments before the fire and tried throw it out the window. Moments later, she realized she missed when she felt heat on her back and saw the car fill with smoke, police said. She pulled over and escaped without injury, but the car was destroyed in the fire...

I’ve often wondered why smokers can’t use their car’s ashtray.
I have nothing against smokers, but really, can’t you use the ashtray in your car?
Mine holds coins, but it is really meant for butts.
Tell me again why teenagers are finding it difficult to land jobs?

They don’t put ashtrays in cars anymore... to discourage smoking.
I have to ask a question though, how much crap was in this woman’s car?
The butt hit something combustible. Not the carpet or seat. I think they are made to be fire resistant. That being said, again, it’s what the ashtray is for. Use it.
Why dirty up your car when the world is your ashtray?
Seeing a smoker toss a butt out of the window is a good way to get me using some good old Anglo-Saxon terms for them.
If one is a smoker, one can either get a “smoking package” for a new car (one with an ashtray and one of those pop lighters) or get an add on ashtray.
But NO, it’s easier to flick it out the window.

To smokers, the world is their ashtray.
I suppose old butts are gross and pile up. Many smokers consider themselves exempt from littering laws. Good thing butts only take about 1000 years to degrade.
But she was only 19.

On a nice day, I like to roll down my car windows. But some character in front of me will toss a butt, still burning, out the window, and let me tell you I have had a few close calls.
So what does she do? She pulls up to the house so the fire can damage it also. Sheesh.
