But still... there’s got to be a reason why the headlines are filled with instances of trouble with this breed. When was the last time there was a headline “Toddler mauled by toy poodle”?

I’ll still take my chances with a coconut.

Bogus statistics...
According to Dog Bite Law, there were 46 fatalities from dog attacks in 2008, and 65% of all fatal dog attacks are pits or rotties. Assume even division, that means 33% - or 15 - deaths in 2008 were from pit bulls in the US each year.
Also, your number of coconut deaths are WORLDWIDE, not just in the US. As the entire world has (6800/300) 22 times the population of the US, that means approximately (150 / 22) 6.8 deaths a year in the US occur from coconuts.
MEANING, that in reality, in the US you are 2.5 times MORE LIKELY to be killed by a pit bull attack than a falling coconut. A bit different than the stats originally claimed, eh?

Pits aren’t necessarily the problem. Its the dumb ass owners.
I hate cocker spaniels as much. They will bite in a New York minute.
That said, the coconut analogy is silly.
150 people probably die from genitals in the garbage disposal.

Not likely Gramma, Michigan has no palm tree’s darn it...too cold...

Well, numbers aside, coconuts won't chase you. Coconuts won't continue to attack once they hit the ground. Coconuts won't suddenly snap. Coconuts, and I'm just guessing here, can't be naturally aggressive, or bred to be aggressive, or trained to be aggressive.
I wouldn't mind if my three year old was alone in the living room with a coconut.
....and Chet 99 hasn't warned me of coconuts.
I don't see the comparison means much of anything at all.

...Therefore, you are more than 60 TIMES MORE LIKELY to be killed by a PALM TREE than a Pit Bull.
I can only assume you survived a hit on the head from a coconut with only brain damage to show for it. I don't live in an area that has palm trees so what are my odds for being killed from a falling coconut? ZERO. I DO have those detestable ugly dogs known as "pit bulls" that live in close proximity to me, making the odds of being killed by one much greater than a coconut.
Time and time again we read about pit bulls ripping the faces off young children or worse. It's always the same story..."gee, he was always such a gentle dog...we don't know why he snapped...blah, blah, blah." Meanwhile, some poor 3 year-old girl is in the hospital with 500 stitches in her face and disfigured for life IF she's "lucky" and survived.
With all available breeds, why on earth would you or anyone select such a breed? What is the point? What redeeming value do they have? That can't be trusted with your own family members, especially small ones, so they are not reliable guard dog companions. Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, but they are UGLY. Period.
Do yourself a favor. Get another breed. And stay away from the palm trees. You might not be so "lucky" next time.

I won’t bully the breed, but if one of those things attacks me, I will have my phasers set to “kill.”

It’s because pit bulls tend to hang out with meth lab operators.

I have a choice about sitting under a coconut tree.
I don’t have a choice about being bitten by an uncontrolled dog.

I just clicked on the link. You know the breed well and have fairly addressed this issue, I think.
