Have Windows 7. Now need good email client. Suggestions?

Don't like the idea of Windows potentially being able to look at all my private info. Thoughts on a good email client that would work with Windows 7?

I'll second that. Thunderbird. It rocks. Be sure to get Lightning, the integrated calender add on.

Agreed. I don’t even use google as a search engine. AltaVista and WebFerret work just fine, and don’t require any compromise of ethics.

surfer is correct, but he’s too kind; GOOGLE HATES AMERICA. How is it that some don’t know this? (please don’t force me to consider the other possibility: that some among us don’t really care) America has made “G” (to speak their name makes me sick) who they are today, but “G” hates the USA like a typical ungrateful progressive liberal child would disdain a good mother.

Yep, Thunderbird is an excellent choice. I just installed it on my neighbor’s new WindoZ 7 computer. It was a little different on the setup from previous versions I had used. It detected a SMTP server where I needed to set up a POP3 e-mail setup. Had to delete the setup and manually setup the POP3. I suspect the mail server had the option of SMTP for their employees.

Beautiful mail client with more options than you really need.

And of course it is much less likely to be compromised than Outlook or Outlook Express was.

Thunderbird 2. T’bird 3 is a disappointment. Or, Gmail or Yahoo mail. The benefit there is that you can access your email from anywhere.

Why would anyone trust Google with all of their personal email? Use a local client.

There is nothing so sensitive I use my email for that I need to be worried about.

I really am old fashioned, at least when it comes to security.

My computer is used only for socializing and news gathering and writing letters.

Probably not enough years left in my life before I go home to the father and meet up with the Mr.

I use Opera. It is a very fast browser with email capabilities built-in...there are a number of other pretty handy utilities included. Definitely worth a look...

Still using Eudora 6.0 with XP and still works great.

I like TB OK. I believe I used Eudora from around 1995 until 2005. If I remember correctly I was having more and more trouble using Eudora with multiple POP accounts with their “Light” aka free versions. In order for me to get the features I wanted I needed to use the “sponsored mode” aka ad-ware based. Plus, it was starting to have a dated look.

TB had a fresher look, multiple POP support and profiles, so I figured I'd try it out. After getting everyone in the family converted and trained I think we all still like it overall. It has had it share of quirks and bugs that I've found over the years that should not have made it out of beta testing.

The good news (or bad depending on your perspective) is that Eudora is going to use the TB core with a Eudora look/interface. So you might get the best of both worlds. I don't know how this is going to turn out, since I don't use Eudora anymore.
