The premise of this is ridiculous. People eat undercooked runny eggs. People eat raw eggs in homemade mayonnaise. Caesar salad contains raw egg.

People rarely eat raw or undercooked chicken.

Furthermore, irradiating food is an excellent means of assuring its safety.

2749: Food Safety Enhancement Act of 2009

http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h111-2749

Passed the House on Jul 30, 2009

Senate has yet to vote on it, but if you look at the complementary bill (S510) it looks like it has serious opposition in the Senate.

Reported version of S510 on Thomas:

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/D?c111:2:./temp/~c111QnCKSF::

Look at the number of “Stuck Out” entries.

NOW this bill is a serious threat to both food cost and freedom to produce food in the U.S. This is a stealth sleeper bill that if it passed the Senate would be in my opinion the ultimate weapon for Despots to control a population. It is also my opinion that is exactly what the House bill was designed to do.

These are Treasonous Acts

Dead foods lead to dead people

I didn't see any reference to peer reviewed studies in the article to support his statement.

As a food service professional that is careful about what I eat, I have no problem with pasturized eggs. Especially now that I'm missing my spleen and have lost some immunity to diseases.

Before long, radiation could become mandatory for ALL fresh produce..."

And his problem with this is.....?

Dead foods lead to dead people.

ROFL!

When a population is denied access to health-enhancing living foods (raw foods), its health begins to deteriorate

Irradiating food will deny him access to health-enhancing living foods? Dear Lord. Where do these people come from?

Don't think that this egg recall has anything to do with protecting the health of consumers......Even toxic chemical food ingredients like MSG, aspartame and sodium nitrite remain perfectly legal, too

It appears you don't need to know much about food, food safety, nutrition, or science in general, to write for Natural News and call yourself the Health Ranger. What a buffoon.

The FDA (or any other federal agency) is not required to do any cost-benefit analysis on their regulations.

That has to change.

Help FReepers. Is the salmonella just on the shell or in the egg?

If it is only on the shell, what is the problem? Could be all kinds of crap on the ‘container’ of the egg.

And if it’s in the egg, how did it get in there? Something seems weird about this whole thing.

Folks need to raise their own eggs (or at least buy from local producers). It’s not that hard, and better for you, and the chickens too. We’ve been doing it for almost ten years and would never go back to the mass produced chicken $#!t they sell in the stores.

Irradiation is a good, healthy way to insure food safety. There’s nothing wrong with irradiation.

Inside. it comes from a crappy diet and the un-natural conditions and processes used to produce eggs for the mass market; all of which are not only sanctioned but mandated by the USDA and FDA.

Thanks, P8riot!

I’d read that the Fed was gunning for the company [ticker:CALM] based on price fixing. Seems there are more rotten areas in the egg business.

it comes from a crappy diet and the un-natural conditions and processes used to produce eggs for the mass market; all of which are not only sanctioned but mandated by the USDA and FDA.

This is nonsense. Salmonella can infect the ovaries of healthy looking hens whether they're considered mass marketed, Kosher, organic, free range or natural. You can't tell by looking at the bird, or where the bird comes from, if it's infected with salmonella. Even infected birds will produce lots of "normal" eggs before offering up a contaminated one. That's why raw eggs need to be cooked.

True, but the potential for infection in mass market birds is greater due to their living conditions and diet. It is impossible to ensure sanitary conditions for birds when they are concentrated in an area that gives each bird less than one square foot in which to live, eat, and defecate. I have a friend here in Virginia that keeps hundreds of free range birds, that produce eggs of a documented higher quality than anything you will buy in a store, even so certified "organic" eggs.

Free range birds eat their natural diet and are healthier than mass market birds who eat a diet that is formulated for egg production not necessarily the health of the bird; unhealthy birds are more likely to harbor the salmonella virus. Also, after the eggs are laid they mingle with the eggs of thousands of other birds and the potential for cross contamination increases. Moreover, the protective outer shell of the egg is removed during processing which leaves the porous shell even more susceptible to bacterial infestation.
