Bill would give OK to 'Ne-VAH-da' pronunciation (proposed by a Democrat assembly man!)

However, outgoing Assemblyman Harry Mortenson is proposing more tolerance. The Las Vegas Democrat is working on a resolution for the 2011 legislative session to make the "Ne-VAH-da" pronunciation equally acceptable.

I understand: out-of-staters insist on calling Pierre “Pee-AIR” instead of “Peer.”

Why not?

Massachusetts became mass. Arizona is now A-raw-zonia. Missouri? Who knows on that one.

Texas has been hit by someone's PR campaign to be reduced to Tex as in Tex Dot (TXDOT). I have challenged these same carpet baggers to dare call the TXDPS troopers Tex Dips to their face.

Cool...and we can now change Mississippi to Mis’sippi...that’s how everyone down here pronounces it anyway.

He still does. Not only that, he butchers grammar.

In Illinois upstaters say Shee-cah’-goe, downstaters say Shiht’-cah-goe. Wonder why?

Missouri? Who knows on that one.

There is Miss-uri, Mizzou-ri, and the older, and much more well-known, Misery.

So then, it’s “lost way-gez, nev-add-a” then. Check-a-roo.

The Wine State's own governor doesn't know how to say, "California."

To think he actually gets paid to sit around and come up with this BS...

I live right on the California/Nevada border and you can always tell an outsider by their "Ne-VAH-da" pronunciation. Like the actors on CSI Las Vegas. Drives Nevadans crazy.
