A growing number of New York construction workers are vowing not to work on the mosque planned near Ground Zero.
"It's a very touchy thing because they want to do this on sacred ground," said Dave Kaiser, 38, a blaster who is working to rebuild the World Trade Center site.
"I wouldn't work there, especially after I found out about what the imam said about U.S. policy being responsible for 9/11," Kaiser said.
The grass-roots movement is gaining momentum on the Internet. One construction worker created the "Hard Hat Pledge" on his blog and asked others to vow not to work on the project if it stays on Park Place.
"Thousands of people are signing up from all over the country," said creator Andy Sullivan, a construction worker from Brooklyn. "People who sell glass, steel, lumber, insurance. They are all refusing to do work if they build there."
"Hopefully, this will be a tool to get them to move it," he said. "I got a problem with this ostentatious building looming over Ground Zero." A planned 13-story community center and mosque two blocks from Ground Zero, Park51 has exploded into a national debate.

Bravo!
Go Boys, we need solidarity on this, picket the place, block materials, whatever you need to do.
ahhh... the unforeseen allies. The builders!!!!
Looks like these Muslims are screwed. (Hopefully).
Can they bring in their own mooses to build it?
I’m at the point of I saying go ahead and build.
The gov. must want another big bboom in NY.
The Dems may have second thoughts once the unions get involved.
Union entitlementsor patriotism.
Which will win in the end?
Lately there have been some issue with pouring the concrete. It’s just not pouring well.
However if you add 9 pounds of bacon grease to each load it solves the problem and the concrete pours just fine.
And there was a rumour that the site was a pig slaughter house during the revolutionary war.
I suppose a work crew can be found, but even then, one wonders whether the site work will experience a lot of accidents, necessitating a lot of extra work. (Not condoning, but it’s human nature.)
A scab crew? In Manhattan? I doubt it.
The site WAS within a farm before the Revelution.
Their name will look great in print, web etc.
This is almost an “Atlas Shrugged” story.
True ... that could lead to even MORE “accidents”!!
When it comes time to begin construction, the union workers will bring prayer rugs and pray to Mecca 5 times a day on the job site if they are told to by their bosses. Union workers are sheep and do whatever they are told.
i was a union carpenter for 20 years.
if the cash is there, the job will be fully staffed.
Doesn’t anybody find it odd that it is THIRTEEN STORIES TALL? Is that like a lucky number for the blood-drinkers?
The unions could drag out the construction of this thing for a 100 years......
