Die-hard "Star Wars" fans have visited the imaginary worlds of Hoth and Tatooine countless times in the sci-fi films, and now they want NASA's help to do some real intergalactic exploring.
At the Star Wars Celebration V convention in Florida over the weekend, "Star Wars" filmmakers and fans asked NASA representatives to develop a hyperdrive that can transport astronauts through space at light speed. And to make it snappy.

But the real question is whether we shall ever reach Ludicrous Speed.
We will, once she moves from suck to blow...
Bwahahahaha!
Doesn’t Einstein’s general theory say hyperdrive violates the laws of physics?
Not necessarily. There are plenty of theoretical ways to bend or break the rules governing light speed. Of course the keyword is theoretical.
Yes, but it fits in nicely with quantum physics. I do believe it’s achievable in our lifetimes as long as Zero stops bankrupting our nation and sets some strong goals... but he’s weak and he’ll never even be a fart in the wind compared to JFK on the subject of doing something because it’s hard.
Obama has no pride in America. Why? Well, why would he if he weren’t native?
The stargate is faster still.
Step through and you’re there.
Would you need to unify quantum physics with general relativity first?
"I've got .. to have .. thirty minutes!"
So do many of the stellar objects we have discovered recently.
“Of course the keyword is theoretical.”
Please refer to my tagline... ;-)
At any rate, the first step is to develop more or less conventional nuclear spacecraft, and begin colonizing the solar system.
There’s unimaginable wealth in this system, and plenty of room to expand human population. Let’s start with that. At least we’ll no longer be vulnerable as a species to a random disaster on Earth.
I’m not sure what you’re saying. “Many stellar objects discovered recently say hyperdrive violates the laws of physics” or “Many stellar objects discovered recently violate classical theories of general relativity.”
First interdimensional spaceship. (a FORD F-350)
Google “NASA & Breakthrough Propulsion” this was a NASA project that occurred about 10 years ago. It didn't get renewed which was a shame.
We’re getting close on that too. I am hoping that there is going to be a major break through very soon.
Many stellar objects discovered recently violate classical theories of accepted physics.
Pshawww! They might as well ask for the Moon.....
Oh, wait a minute.
filmmakers and fans asked NASA representatives to develop a hyperdrive that can transport astronauts through space at light speedHell, no one thought to ask them before? Wow. ;')
