Roger Clemens charged with perjury in steroid case

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Former major league pitcher Roger Clemens is under indictment, accused of lying to Congress about using steroids.

Clemens faces charges of obstruction of Congress, making false statements and perjury.

When there was testimony before Congress on the events at Waco, were any charges brought against FBI agents who clearly perjured themselves?

During all the Whitewater proceedings, was anyone prosecuted for committing perjury?

When the investigation regarding Vince Foster was rammed through, nobody was ever prosecuted for giving inaccurate testimony.

The idea that Clemens should be held to account, seems rather ludicrous to me, considering the type of justice that is generally allowed to rule the day before Congress.

Hardly ever is anyone held to account regarding their testimony before Congress. And so it is, that I find it really strange that Clemens is now the ultimate bad guy.

Diversion is the only thing that makes sense to me. Perhaps you can offer up a better reason.

It is a great joke that its a crime to lie to a Congressperson as they lie to their constituents constantly.

really? With all the serious sh!t going on in this country, a perjury case for steroids is what needs attention right now?

Every single day since this country's founding over 200 years ago, there has been "serious sh!t" going on somewhere. There will always be "serious sh!t" going on in this country.

If you are unable to multitask and process the big things and the little things, bummer.

In the scheme of things, this is more important than some of the other crap that people get riled about. Lying under oath is not something we need to encourage. It could and would undermine our whole legal system if we allow it to go unchecked, whether it's some junkie in court on drug possession charges or a baseball player in front of Congress.

If people aren't willing to respect the fact that they are under oath, then they need a reality check. We especially don't need our children thinking "why are all these adults telling us we aren't supposed to lie when these rich athletes can get away with it?"

It should not be a crime to deny criminal wrongdoing. I feel that if the government comes knocking, everyone should be able to tell the cops, “I didn’t do it.”. Whether it’s me telling to state trooper I wasn’t speeding, the Rocket saying he didn’t take steroids or Clinton saying he did not have sex with that woman. It’s a matter of self preservation.

Putting aside the fact that you weren't sworn in and under oath when you talked to the state trooper, why on earth would you ever compare yourself to Bill Clinton?

Bill Clinton is everything that is wrong with this country, and he sent the message out to our young people that it's okay to lie.
