i switched to opera..it is awesome!
You are citing reasons why FF is my backup browser. It is not reliable — and there are way too many annoying updates.
Check Tools-Addons disable the java consoles except 6.0.17
I use ff but I just got a new computer so things are running fine for me.
So far....
I’ve encountered similar problems and it had nothing to do with Firefox. Rebooting my router fixed it every time; I suspect a memory leak in the router’s firmware.
Yep. FF has become a resource hog. I’m sick of it.
Is your computer wet?
I use Sea Monkey, which is a Mozilla open source project that most people don’t hear much about, much less use.
It’s not perfect by any means, but having tried Opera, CrazyBrowzer, and a few others (I detest Internet Explorer and will use it only to open a file or site that won’t open in anything else - like microsoft, for instance) I keep coming back to it.
I haven’t noticed it being any more weird than it normally is lately. Running XP here - I wonder if W7 or another OS might be having compatibility issues?
Follow these instructions:
1. Type about:config in the address window.
2. Right click somewhere in the browser, then ‘New’ and then ‘Boolean’.
3. Name the field network.dns.disablePrefetch.
4. Set value to true.
5. Close and restart browser.
Browsing speed should be much faster.
Been a long time since I’ve drug this one out...

(It REALLY works)
Don’t know if it will necessarily help in your situation, but it certainly won’t hurt.
I just installed Firefox 3.6.8, and it is much faster than the version I had before. However, some web sites are slow, particularly if they’re running on an old computer in some kid’s basement.
Do you see consistent results?
I’ve used firefox for well over ten years and just recently dropped it because it turns itself into a large memory leak and disables the computer. The same thing happened on my Mom’s computer. I’ve been using Google Chrome and love how fast it is.
I have no issues with Firefox here but one I heard suggested one time that you may try is disabling IPv6 support in Firefox. Scroll down on this link to where it says IPv6 for instruction if you think its worth trying.

Mine constantly locks up when trying to open a pdf file off a website.
I can’t see Facebook with FF...I have to add this annoying little “s” next to the http and then it will open. I have no idea how to fix it either.
I had this problem start after a windows update. Sarafi is also having a problem but IE is working fine.
I was. Months ago.
Then I switched to Chrome.
