For years, the stars of "Mystery Science Theater 3000" found the funny in films that were never intended to be comedies. A poorly-written B-grade science fiction film like "This Island Earth" was, for instance, perfect fodder for the MST3K guys.

On August 19, Michael J. Nelson, Bill Corbett and Kevin Murphy will be back in theaters for live RiffTrax presentation of "Reefer Madness." A notorious propaganda film from the 1930's, this over-the-top movie shows the horrors that come with smoking marijuana.

“You may need Mommy Government to tell you what you can or can’t smoke but the grown ups among us don’t.

So kindly butt out.”

Well, then, you and George Soros can join forces:)

Drug policy reform:

George Soros has funded worldwide efforts to promote drug policy reform. In 2008, Soros donated $400,000 to help fund a successful ballot measure in the state of Massachusetts known as the Massachusetts Sensible Marijuana Policy Initiative which decriminalized possession of less than 1 oz (28g) of marijuana in the state. Soros has also funded similar measures in California, Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Nevada and Maine.[45] Among the drug decriminalization groups that have received funding from Soros are the Lindesmith Center and Drug Policy Foundation

Soros donated $1.4 million to publicity efforts to support California’s Proposition 5 in 2008, a failed ballot measure that would have expanded drug rehabilitation programs as alternatives to prison for persons convicted of non-violent drug-related offenses.

Even a broken clock is right at least twice a day.

A little off subject, does anybody else think that Soros may be more dangerous after he’s gone than now? Even though he has five kids he’s still going to have tons to give to his foundation. Right now he has a few limits but once his foundation gets supercharged from his estate leftist causes will have almost unlimited funding and less restraints.

I think most of the MST3K crew is fairly liberal. That being said, Mike was the head writer for a long time and ran that ship. He was and is excellent.

A lot of folks think the show lost a lot when Joel left. I thought it got better. I like both Joel and Mike, but Mike always had the edge for me, even before I knew of his politics.

Mike has always been a standout. I admit, I love all of the MST3K stuff, but I prefer Rifftrax to Cinematic Titanic (Joel’s crew) by a good margin.

How was it? I’ll have to go to the Tuesday show. I had to decide whether or not to go to the normal place I go on Thursdays or to the movie. They were 30 miles from each other. The reason I went to my normal Thursday thing was to see a lady who I hoped would be there. She wasn’t as she went the movie. How about that?

It was great! The guys were in excellent form. Lots of great jokes. They also showed three new shorts, which were very funny. I really enjoyed myself. I hope you can make the Tuesday show. I think you’ll have fun.

FYI, they are doing another live show at the end of October: House On Haunted Hill. I can’t wait!
