Mystery Science Theater 3000 smashed through all known barriers Friday night to prove itself the king of geeky TV when its total on Kickstarter (including its add-on shop) soared past $6.3 million. The show, which went off the air in 1999, became the most successful crowdfunded video project of all time, surpassing the Veronica Mars movie, which previously held the title with $5.7 million. This year’s edition of the sacred MSTie tradition known as Turkey Day should be an especially festive affair, considering that the Kickstarter to fund a new season of MST3K has already exceeded its $2 million goal with 22 days left to go in the campaign. Thus, MST3K creator Joel Hodgson will carve up six juicy, tender classic episodes of the show beginning at 12 p.m. ET/9 a.m. PT next Thursday, AD. For years, the stars of "Mystery Science Theater 3000" found the funny in films that were never intended to be comedies. A poorly-written B-grade science fiction film like "This Island Earth" was, for instance, perfect fodder for the MST3K guys. On August 19, Michael J. Nelson, Bill Corbett and Kevin Murphy will be back in theaters for live RiffTrax presentation of "Reefer Madness." A notorious propaganda film from the 1930's, this over-the-top movie shows the horrors that come with smoking marijuana.

For 10 side-splitting seasons and one feature film, the crew of the Satellite of Love orbited Earth, faced with the arduous assignment of watching and lampooning only the most wretched movies ever made.

I have felt for sometime now that the main motivating force behind the "Bush lied, people died" crowd is the notion that "they did it to Clinton, so we'll do it to Bush."
