OLIVER SPRINGS - A Clinton man was arrested for his fifth drunken-driving offense Sunday afternoon. His lawnmower was taken to the impound lot.
The arresting deputy knew that Lonnie Michael Haney, 46, had had his driver's license revoked when he recognized the serial offender driving a John Deere riding mower southbound along the shoulder of the northbound lane on Tri-County Boulevard, according to the Anderson County Sheriff's Office incident report.
Haney allegedly had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, red glossy eyes, slurred speech and appeared unsteady on his feet, the report states. He failed a subsequent sobriety test.
Once arrested and seat-belted into the back seat of the deputy's cruiser, Haney also was outfitted with a helmet, the report notes, after he began banging his head against the inside of the vehicle.
He now is charged with felony DUI, driving on a revoked license and violation of the implied consent law, ACSO Chief Deputy Mark Lucas said.

Is Charlie Manson still alive?
Yeah, that’s him. His name is Steve. I’d post if it I wasn’t on a blackberry. His domestic video was funny. He walks out to talk to the cops with a joint in his hand. LOL!!
Alive and well, unfortunatley.

Would you feel that way if you had to swerve to avoid him, and possibly hit somebody else, or totaled your car, in the process?
“Would you feel that way if you had to swerve to avoid him, and possibly hit somebody else, or totaled your car, in the process?”
Yep, I’d feel just as bad as I’d feel if I had to swerve to avoid a totally sober bike rider and total my car. Or the power walkers who walk too far out into the street.
Would your solution be to make an offense equivalent to DUI for those who cause me to have an accident?
Are you telling me that if I get to .09 bac and ride a lawnmower on the sidewalk, at the break-neck speed of 7 mph, that I’m a hazard worthy of a DUI violation?
Never had a DUI.
Never have been arrested for anything ever, in part, because I know stuff like this.
I used to ride along with the cops a few years ago.
Got labeled FOC on the firescreen.
LOL!!! If I got a DUI for every time a was driving a golf cart s-faced I’d be in prison.
But hey, I’m playing golf. Cops won’t mess with khaki and golf shirt dressed white guys. The cops are just harrassing this guy. Most likely an alcoholic. Sad state of affairs we live in.
Does is stop at mowers or do we include wheel chairs also? Rascal scooter? Skateboard? Roller skates?

I think the WV Supreme Court recently held that a riding mower is not a motor vehicle under state law. No authority in TN, but I would try it out as an argument if I were his lawyer.
What a copycat! George Jones invented the “riding lawn mower liquor run” decades ago. :-)
No DUIs, no arrests, and I don't know "stuff like this."
If only he’d hung an orange triangle on his farm vehicle. ;-)
So now he loses his right to mow his lawn....for life.
Judge: "What led you to believe the subject was intoxicated, officer?"
Officer: "It was them glossy eyes of hissen, yore honor."
Sounds like something from a bad movie.
Probably starring Burt Reynolds, Johnny Paycheck and George Jones.
You make it too easy. He is driving his mower drunk along the roadway. All he has to do as a drunk is to pull onto the roadway and have cars traveling much faster wreck avoiding him.
Why did I even need to point out such an obvious danger? It is common sense which apparently isn't common anymore.
The common sense thing to do is take him to detox or home. Cops get their jollies off this sort of stuff.
If you want to have a lot, that is, a lot, of fun.
Go into your local police station and ask if you can ride along with one of the patrolmen some night. They might schedule you in.
You won’t regret it.
You will not be armed and will not write tickets or anything, but you will have an active roll as a kind of limited civilian backup.
Its a blast.
Mine goes pretty fast......Much faster than walking, anyway.
