House Minority Leader John Boehner on Sunday said he's open to talks on changing the U.S. Constitution -- or at least the way it's interpreted -- so that U.S.-born children of illegal immigrants are not automatically U.S. citizens.
"I think it's worth considering," Boehner said.
The top House Republican joined Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell in calling for further study of the idea -- something that has been endorsed by prominent Republicans over the past few weeks. Though the call is already running into stiff opposition and faces extremely long odds of ever succeeding, some lawmakers say it would be a way to minimize the incentive for illegal immigration.
"There is a problem. To provide an incentive for illegal immigrants to come here so that their children can be U.S. citizens does, in fact, draw more people to our country," Boehner said on NBC's "Meet the Press." "I do think that it's time for us to secure our borders and enforce the law and allow this conversation about the 14th Amendment to continue."
He continued: "In certain parts of our country, clearly our schools, our hospitals are being overrun by illegal immigrants -- a lot of whom came here just so their children could become U.S. citizens."

Mexicans vote democrat and are practically marxist on the economy. At least Muslims believe in the gold standard.
Excellent point.
Best example I ever heard was from Levin. If the French Ambassador’s wife gives birth at Lenox Hill hospital is that baby an American citizen? Of course not!
Yes, I do agree. Amending the Constitution which some of the ruling class Republicans are pushing is totally unnecessary
As is the supposed need for legislation.
So I guess what we need is an Executive Order.
“worth considering”? This is the best Boehner can muster? “worth considering” How about urgently needed as a stopgap to prevent the complete destruction of our economy and our sovereignty??? This is the mealy mouth crap you always get with Republicans. DemocRats never have a problem making statements (usually wrong) unequovocially. With repubbies you get milque toast.
Boehner is probably a closeted RINO.
The risk for the illegal alien's kids who were born in the United States is that an administrative process can be abolished with the flick of an administrator's wrist when any revision to the set of rules in which it is lodged is passed around for review.
Birthright citizenship could simply disappear as if it had never existed. In virtually all cases, unless there has been some challenge along the way, when an administrative process changes or is abolished, the effect is not only instantaneous it is retroactive.
That's because it's not the sort of statutory or judicial process "law" that's prohibited from being made retroactive.
Let's say the State Department's rules are changed (by appropriate legislation if needed, although I think the Hildabeast can do this on her own) and all at once there never was a process that resulted in a determination that mere birth in this country sufficed for State Department purposes, to wit, issuance of passports.
The next time one of those guys gets his American passport renewed, he can't get it. He's not a citizen ~ nor was he ever a citizen ~ and he'll be referred to ICE for further disposition.
I suspect that Mr. Boehner will declare after “serious study” that the change in citizenship is “impractical at this time.” OH Republicans spend more time taking polls than in leading on issues.
THERE IS NO NEED TO CHANGE THE CONSTITUTION! The author of the constitution said that citizenship was not automatically given to illegal aliens! It was Justice Brennen who created out of thin air the right to citizenship for illegal aliens born here.
All that is needed is a law that states that you must be in the country LEGALLY to get birthright citizenship. Boehner know that it is practically impossible to amend the Constitution and is just saying this to take heat off the fact that the Republicans have done NOTHING to solve the illegal alien problem for 20 years.
Ping!
The zealots would sue, but it would be a tough go to prove Wong Kim Ark was a legit ruling.
As we all recall, the Senate has been rather evenly divided for most of the last 100 years, and during much of George Bush' terms, there was just a 1 or 2 vote margin so Senate leadership got flip flipped back and forth frequently.
You can't fix serious problems with that sort of party balance.
What you need to do is make sure the Democrats are unable to take those seats in the Senate, or the House. I am sure the Republicans will be quite able to FIX the illegal alien problem.
It is nice that Boehner is willing to "consider" the issue of anchor babies. Maybe he'll get around to "considering" whether Brennan's 1982 footnote that led to this perversion of the 14th Amendment was just another puddle of pee on the Constitution.
This non-committal non-comment from the non-conservative Boehner is exactly why the right-thinking citizens of this country cannot afford to let unprincipled RINO Republicans pretend to represent us. It is not so difficult to express a principled, reasoned idea as these RINOs pretend it to be.
Illegal aliens, those who have blatantly ignored and violated US immigration laws and procedures, have not subjected themselves "to the jurisdiction thereof ..."; therefore the babies they spawn on US soil are just as illegal as their parents.
Check this out:
Muslim woman with 8 kids living in Government supplied $4.2 million London Council House
