The eruption hurled a coronal mass ejection (CME) into space, just missing a direct sun-Earth line. Forecasters expect the cloud to deliver no more than a glancing blow to our planet's magnetic field when it billows by on August 9th or 10th--not be a major space weather event.
Future eruptions could turn out differently. Active region 1093 is rotating toward Earth. By the end of this weekend, we'll be in the line of fire if its magnetic fields become unstable again. Space Weather Phone subscribers will be the first to know.

Ping..in mexico tonight so very little light pollution. thank you for sharing this.
very interesting
There is nothing wrong with street lights they just need an off switch.
You're very welcome. Happy viewing tonight.
Yeah an of switch would be good. Or a .22 short to the dam things.
(Glass is too think for a Pellet Rifle and a 9mm Makarov (9x18) is too much).
The problem is they just didn't replace the ones we had, which gave us a 'countryish' look and feeling (you could see the sky). They ADDED lights where we didn't need any, bought the wrong type, and light poles that are too short.
All this brought to you by the same people that says we must conserve energy to save the planet or we will all die!
Bush’s fault.
Exactly right.
The bottom line is our Board was lied to by the contractor. The lights were be energy efficient and were 'supposed to dim over time' but 1½ years later our streets look still like landing strips at O'Hare Airport.
They say 'action is being taken against the contractor', we shall see about that. I may have to buy a .22 Rifle again.
I never should have gotten rid of my 1st .22 I bought new for $20.00 in 1966. It fired .22 Shorts to .22 LR. It was a nice single shot bolt action 'plinker'.
It’s not light pollution — it’s roach repellent.
Thanks! I’ll go out and find a spot on the road where the trees thin out and take a look. Sorry about the light pollution. Have you thought of a BB gun?
Oops - suggested the BB without reading the subsequent discussion!

Stepped outside to take a look at it, and I have clouds.... Lots and lots of clouds. Those three planets are always easily viewable with the naked eye. Never seen them that close together before. It WOULD have been neat to watch.... /cry
A 1000+ fps pellet will take out just about anything made of glass for outdoor use, including offending street lights.
Note to all street light shooters, everybody really appreciates a pile of glass in the street.
It is a good thing that the lights are free of all costs including labor to replace too.
Careful there BenLurkin.
When I was 4yrs old I was told to stay away from the waves at the beach due to the undertow.
I didn’t listen.
I ran up to the wave and went nanny goat, nanny goat and then would run away.
The undertow grabbed me and I thought I was a gonner.
Luckily a couple saw me being dragged out and ran in and saved me.

Please be sure to ping me then.
