"Lola "... Loyal, conservative Canine Freeper and dedicated K-9 companion of Recovering Ex-Hippie, passed away August 3."
I am heartbroken that my wonderful doggie, Lola, died Tuesday morning. She was 15 years old and had been adopted from the Doggie Orphanage in Cleveland. She then moved with me to Jacksonville, FL.
Always a Patriotic Pupster, Lola was called upon by the CIA after 9-11 to break up Terrorist Squirrel Cells in our woods .a calling she dedicated herself to with great enthusiasm. She was the mascot for a fund drive to raise money for the New Orleans Humane society during Katrina.
In 2004, she campaigned along with Freeper Chieftains canine, Brenda, for George Bush. Lola also campaigned for Sarah Palins VP run with her sign Pets for Palin.
She was a big fan of Free Republic, especially the Doggie Ping and the Live 24 TV show thread!
Lola was also a therapy dog and helped many people with emotional problems as my co-therapist. She was a participant in group therapy, child therapy and even on occasion, marital therapy. In 2007 she was called to duty at the Lake City, FL VA Hospital to mentor veterans in the Substance Abuse Residential Program, visiting the unit several days a week. The veterans delighted in Lola, and knew whatever they confided in her would be kept totally confidential. She touched so many lives!
Lola was my faithful companion for 15 years. I learned much about love and loyalty, honesty and compassion from this Person in a Fur Coat. In the last year, Lola had problems with arthritis we made adjustments in our lifestyle. Freeper Chieftain often had to come over and help me get her to the vet. Her difficulties increased in the last few months. I learned that love sees the other as perfect no matter their frailties, and they are as beautiful as ever, maybe more , as the years go on.
On the morning of her last day, she lay there sleeping while I sat there petting her, and comforting her .then she just stopped breathing and was gone.
This is when you learn the value of true friends. My friends, Glenda, Kim, and Jane came to console me. Then our good friend, master finishing carpenter and true conservative, Terry, built a light maple coffin for Lola. Terry and Freeper Chieftain helped me bury her Tuesday night .and now it is very quiet and I miss Lola so much.
Please say a prayer for her and for me, or chant. Thanks for listening to my grief.
I have read Mark’s book and yes, I will place her story on his website. His book was so special, and to read how Rush and Sean Hannity comforted him and gave him support gives you a whole different perspective of the “tough” conservative guys.
thank you ...I think the Doggie Orphanages ( we never said the other word!) are the best places to find a Fur Person.
Its very hard to think that I would want to go through this again...I miss her so, it seemed like now the years just flew by...yet I have no regrets...she had a great life and gave so much.
R.I.P. Lolakins.
Lola would be honored to accept your and Ranger’s sympathy.
I recently learned that St Francis of Assisi was a combat veteran who came back home with what we now call PTSD, part of why he could no longer be with his wealthy family and began the wandering and ministering to the “homeless” of the time, and of course, his spiritual connection with animals.
Thank you for those eloquent and kind words.
It was so easy to make her happy...and she was so loving...They are so sweet when they are sleeping, sometimes she would dream of chasing squirrels, cause her legs would “run’ in her sleep!
God bless you.
I know how it hurts to loose a beloved pet.
I am so sorry that you have lost Lola, and thankful that you had so much joy with her.
I found your thread under Free Republic here:
wow!
THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME KNOW!!
I wonder how it got to there?
I was so happy to put up a tribute to Lola and it has been so comforting to get the posts.
Beautiful dear Lola has passed on and I pray.
It is so hard to know what to do after your pet dies. My prayers are with you. Understand the feelings you have as we have had many times wondered what to do next after the loss of a pet.
Our choice was to get another and that has always worked for us as the next dog seemed different, but yet as loving and God knows that Love is what it is all about.
God be with you during this stressful time. Please know that your sorrow will pass and there will be joy again.
I am so sorry for your loss. This thread is a beautiful tribute to Lola’s life and I hope it can comfort you as you grieve.
Thank you for sharing.
(((HUGS)))
She sounds like she was a wonderful dog, friend and companion. I’m sorry for your loss. You have my prayers.
Mark Levin was suppose to be at the Freedom Concert last night in New jersey. I was at that concert that Olly North and Hannity put on and as soon as the show started Sean said that he received a call from Mark saying he could not come, his dog was dying and he needed to stay with the family.
Mark Levin is a stand up man. He knows is priorities.
God Bless you and Mark.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMFORTING WORDS....
I have never had such an experience as Freeper does, to have these gentle and comforting posts be of such help to me.
Mark Levin in his book “Rescuing sprite” shared what Sean and Rush said to him when he lost his dog before, what a different view of those “tough guys”...
Those who show love to their pets give the most wonderful gift to their children, as I received from my parents, who loved animals. I remember my big , strong dad giving our doggie kisses and pets...What a memory, what a lesson.
Nights and days are long but we FReepers are always here.
God Bless and may your night be comfort and sleep. Tomorrow will be clearer and better.

The Phaboulous Phudd Is keeping an eye out for Lola at the Rainbow Bridge.
Dear Lord...Please take care of Lola and Lord please comfort Recovering Ex-hippie at this time. Amen
So very sorry for your loss friend. Thank you for sharing Lola with us.
