Marlin 1894 Cowboy ( 45 Colt)
Youtube ^ | 4 August, 2010 | Hickok45

Hickok45 video having some fun and gunning with one of mine and his favorite Marlins, the 1894 Cowboy Limited in .45 Colt caliber. This rifle is a jewel and so much fun to shoot. The .45 Colt is a great flexible round.

Of course, now that there's a .45-70 revolver, all bets are off ;-)

been trying to save up for one of those for a while. with its size, MR says it doesn't kick any more than a .44 mag- of course my .44mag has a 7.5" barrel and is magna ported..

"...but can't bring myself to do it..." That's the story of my life. I can't bring myself to trade away a good one. So I just keep buying. A fair collection

If I need something bigger than a .44 Mag I’m bringing a rifle.

You got that right. Even a .44 mag is overkill unless you are walking around in bear country, and even for that I would prefer my .45, and being able to empty a 12-round magazine into whatever was causing me trouble.

There are several theories, including that Russian (and probably others) cavalry doctrine was to have one’s revolver cocked whenever it was in hand on horseback (one less thing to do when things get ugly). The spur offered a place to keep the trigger finger without diminishing the shooter’s grip.

Other’s include a rest for the middle finger of the shooter, a “parry guard” against sword cuts (okee dokee), and a hanger to help support the gun when stuffed in a sash (flap holsters not being the fastest to draw from).

-- What about a thompson? It was a favorite of gangsters and WWII troopers! --

Clyde Barrow was a fan of the BAR. The government's Thompsons were no match.

Yep, especially Alaska which is where I carried the 454 Casull.

There was one incident involving a guy killing a charging grizzly with a .45 ACP. Everyone was in awe as most carried larger calibers.

Most people don't realize how big these bears can get or how fast they can attack.

I love lever actions and Marlin makes the best IMO.

I just finished reworking the finish and bluing on my Marlin 336 30/30 that my dad had given me when I was 16. I love that gun and it is still a great shooter. I think the Marlin 336 is the best looking lever action ever built. Which reminds me that I need to go shoot it!

That is a beauty. Nice job!

There's only one thing better than talking about guns. ;-)
