Marlin 1894 Cowboy ( 45 Colt)
Youtube ^ | 4 August, 2010 | Hickok45

Hickok45 video having some fun and gunning with one of mine and his favorite Marlins, the 1894 Cowboy Limited in .45 Colt caliber. This rifle is a jewel and so much fun to shoot. The .45 Colt is a great flexible round.

I used to load my 45 Blackhawk so hot it would be obliterating the markings on the case heads. I’ve toned my loads way back now.

"And the .44-40, well... no interest other than a bunch of yuppies have their repro Winchester ‘73’s chambered for it."

LOL...actually, for a long time, that was probably the best dual-use carbine/revolver combo out there. Of course, now that there's a .45-70 revolver, all bets are off ;-)

If I need something bigger than a .44 Mag I’m bringing a rifle.

I don’t know how people can even fire 454 Casulls. Talk about “tear your face offf” loud. I was once at a range and the fellow a few stalls down was firing one. I almost had to leave.

I had a guy touch off a .500 S&W 4” next to me at an indoor range.

My nuts about fell into my socks.

LOL, yep... it never failed to get a few heads turning. The size and weight of the Ruger Redhawk help a bunch with recoil.

My brother has a (ported) .45-70 barrel for his Thompson-Center Contender. I’ve fired it...it gets your attention, and while I wouldn’t want to spend a day at the range getting beat up by it, I’ve yet to fire a weapon that I wouldn’t fire again.

The 6 1/2” Russian trigger guard has a hook on the bottom.

What is it for? How do you hold it, middle finger over or under?

I used to have a Desert Eagle in .50AE (sold during my divorce). It’s gas operated, and the gas vents to the bottom and sides when the slide comes out of battery. It’s not particularly noticeable to the shooter (who has to worry about the occasional case that ejects into his face), but if you’re standing off to the side, the jet of flame will make you think the weapon may have blown up!

I had one with an 7” barrel in 45. Colt, accurate but I reload black powder cartridges and it just gummed up too much. Tolerences are much tighter on the Uberti than the original S&W.

The .50AE is one badass round. It’ll do a number on metal targets.

I have the Super Redhawk .454/45, but no .45 cal rifles. Have thought about a 45 lever of some kind.

That's the trigger guard spur, and is a holdover from older single shot pistol days...

...it really does nothing other than offer an alternate grip position. Many were cut or filed off. As these were made for the Russian contract, I would suspect that bulky 19th century gloves may not have permitted room for the first three fingers on the relatively small grip and the spur would have accomodated that, but that's speculation on my part.
