Abandoned one-eyed kitten needs home
FOX 5 San Diego Staff
A kitten that scratched his own eye out has been nursed back to health and is ready for adoption at a North County animal shelter.
The kitten was found on May 16 with its mother and the other kittens in its litter, but it was the only one still alive, according to John Van Zante with the Helen Woodward Animal Center.
After workers at the center examined the kitten, they determined that he had probably scratched out his eye because it was infected.
"At first they considered putting him down because there was nobody to care for him after the surgery," Van Zante said. "Fortunately one of our HWAC foster care volunteers could take him."
The kitten was named Simon by workers at the center. He is a bit more than 2 months old now and has been nursed back to health, Van Zante said. On Thursday, he will be available for adoption.
For more information about Simon call the Helen Woodward Animal Center in Rancho Santa Fe at 858-756-4117 or visit the center's website.

His eye is aqua, rather than straight Siamese blue. He might be a Tonkinese mix instead.
Since they went ahead with a Jewish name, why didn’t they name him Sammy [Davis Jr.]? ;)
He is a HANDSOME boy cat! :)=^..^=
A ladykiller, you betcha.
We got our two girls as adults...previous owner had gotten them from the shelter as kittens, then had to give them up when her husband became terminally ill.
We were originally told they were around both 3 years when we got em but one is slowing down enough and there’s just a subtle...something that we’ve all picked up on that makes me think the one’s age was fudged a bit perhaps.
But...not affectionate? Oh lordy...there are times it would be nice if they were a bit LESS affectionate. The second a lap appears, they’re vying to claim it, which usually progresses to climbing to the shoulder and being held like a baby. They’re both the very definition of lap fungus....
The males we got directly at 10 weeks, tho? They’re both far more dignified about it all...one is exceedingly devoted but he always keeps a strong sense of dignity to his behaviour, and the other male is rather skittish still at 3 years...vet seems to think he’s just a bit slow and he’ll always be a bit slow and nervous. He adores attention, but under his own terms...he’ll spook and bolt if you don’t go through everything he wants first. Kinda like OCD rituals.
Lap fungus! OMG, LOL.
Wow. That’s impressive.
Our cat Slinker died only a month after being diagnosed, and he was only 8 years old. He went from being normal to be extremely ill very quickly, but his illness was misdiagnosed by our former vet, and she kept treating him and drugging him for the wrong things. We spent a fortune before she finally referred us to a specialist, where we spent another fortune, who gave us the bad news, and it was ‘way too late at that point.
Need I mention that we now drive ten miles farther to an AHA vet?
OCD rituals! OMGosh! LOL!
Yes. I’ll flip you for him.
Matthew 5:29
And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee...
Please don’t flip me.
A COIN!! Flip a coin.
I almost never flip my friends, and if I did, how would you ever know?

Well, landing hard on my *$$ might be a tip-off. ;^)
He’s not black.
I saw that in the paper. Good for you Missourians! Way to go!
oh. that kind of flip...
I had a cat that we found with a huge blind eye. It looked gross. The Vet said that the vitreous humor didn’t circulate as he probably had cat distemper. Vet didn’t want to remove the eye. Every now and then it would deflate. ?Cat scratched it? Anyway, I convinced the Vet to take it out.
He was the most jocular cat I have ever owned. A strongly built black and white. He would pounce on this small oriental type black and white, get the weight on her, then he would walk away. She would bother him for more as it was just play.
You could dress him up he didn’t care. It was so sad to put him down. His gut was affected by the virus the Vet figured. He would have bouts of vomiting and constipation. Constantly on Petramalt and Colace. Then I would still find he vomited.
I’m glad he found good hoomins to take care of him.
