Abandoned one-eyed kitten needs home
FOX 5 San Diego Staff
A kitten that scratched his own eye out has been nursed back to health and is ready for adoption at a North County animal shelter.
The kitten was found on May 16 with its mother and the other kittens in its litter, but it was the only one still alive, according to John Van Zante with the Helen Woodward Animal Center.
After workers at the center examined the kitten, they determined that he had probably scratched out his eye because it was infected.
"At first they considered putting him down because there was nobody to care for him after the surgery," Van Zante said. "Fortunately one of our HWAC foster care volunteers could take him."
The kitten was named Simon by workers at the center. He is a bit more than 2 months old now and has been nursed back to health, Van Zante said. On Thursday, he will be available for adoption.
For more information about Simon call the Helen Woodward Animal Center in Rancho Santa Fe at 858-756-4117 or visit the center's website.

Should rename it “Lucky”.
I already have a one eyed cat, along with about 10 two eyed cats.
Wow...I had a Blue Point Siamese for 16 years named Simon. One tough cat. Lived 2 years after being diagnosed with lymphoma.
This Simon certainly is a handsome little boy. I’m sure he’ll find a great home.
I wanted to do that the first time I saw Rosie O’Donnell.
I had an one eye cat.. at first he had problems with depth (we kept hearing him running into things while chasing his sister) but he adapted quite fast.. vet said it was probably his father who did that, he was 1/2 bobcat ... both him and sister were sweet as they could be .. just very strong and agile!!!
Everyone loves kittens, I wish more people would adopt the older ones............Mine was estimated to be about 2 years old when I got her and she has been a perfect companion with the exception that she is not an affectionate cat.
I would take him if someone can get him to TN. I would rename him Cyclops.
ping a ding a ling lol!
I adopted one like that myself. She doesn’t much care for the other cats and she is a biter. She was declawed when we got her so she doesn’t claw. After 6 months, she has settled down some.
He’s a cutie.
I have 4, otherwise he'd be mine!
He is precious! A word about Siamese cats. They are very vocal. My son had one named Sam. He was such a sweet boy but so loud! LOL He got kidney disease and had to be euthanized when he was about 8 years old. We all cried for days!
“Like A One Eyed Cat, Peekin’ In A Seafood Store”....doo-do-do-do, doot-doo-do-do-do...I wish I could take him!
But what a beautiful eye it is!
It is!
