I was in my favorite thrift store last week, found this sitting in a plastic bin with a 5 dollar sticker. It had a 28mm lens on it, I found a 35-70 f2.8-4 Sigma for another 18 bucks.
I've been cleaning and testing, got it ready to roll again.
The Minolta XG-M came out in the early 80s, it has auto exposure and manual focus. It all cleaned up to about 99%. I'll shoot it some and the rest of the time it will look great on my shelf.
I can get negatives digitized to discs, it isn't very expensive.

Whoa! What a deal. I bet you can find some good deals on slightly older cameras but this one beats the band.
Get us some bird and duck pics with it.

Is there anywhere that you’ll be able to get film developed?

Cool. I have a old Olympus OM-10 I found on E-Bay. Same camera I dropped off a balcony 20 years ago. The Oly looks great standing in the corner on a tripod.

I’ve got a similar SLR Canon from about the same era, gathering dust. I don’t know where I would find a battery or film for it. Great in its time.

They still make it for idiots like me!
Hey, I still ain't broke down and looked at a TV! Being retired requires a lot of toys!
I've got friends who just sit and watch Oprah while their wives nag at them, to heck with that nonsense!

I have a half dozen Nikon film bodies sitting my closet and even more lens to go with them. All I carry now is a Dx40 and an 18-200mm. I also have four other digital cameras in that closet.
Camera are like guns, never have enough.

Two years ago, for her birthday, I bought Mrs Shibumi the best digital I could afford.
Now instead of carrying around that clumsy old Pentax, with a bag full of lenses and filters, she carries around her sleek new digital *AND* the Pentax with the bag full of lenses and filters.
Minimum two rolls of film per month, PLUS an SD card.

This one uses 2 of the little LR-44 batteries, they are all over the place. If you do a search on camera batteries most of the old ones are still available. Film is easy to find, they'll be making it for a long time yet.
I'm thinking of saving up a few bucks and getting a scanner, some of them will handle 35mm and slides. There are places that will develop your film and put it on discs and the price isn't bad if you don't get carried away.

A TV can come in handy for viewing your digital photos. You can hook it up to your computer and view slide shows, complete with bird calls.

I found a Minolta SRT200 the other day when cleaning out some junk. It has what looks like the stock lens...says 50mm. I think it belonged to my mom. Is this a decent camera?

It sure is. If you don't want to keep it find someone who will appreciate it, lots of people still prefer them to digital.
A lot of good gear gets banged up and ruined in thrift shops because no one knows how to tell the good ones from the plastic junk..
I almost feel guilty for only paying 5 bucks, LOL
